    Abstract
    Die rasanten Veränderungen der Kommunikation und der daraus resultierende soziale und kulturelle Wandel betreffen auch die Hochschulen in besonderer Weise. Hochschulleitungen haben hier bereits schon reagiert, sie stehen aber weiterhin vor der Herausforderung, auf die Veränderungen zu reagieren und entsprechende Maßnahmen zu ergreifen. Es bedarf nicht nur einer Harmonisierung des Informationsmanagements und der Informationsinfrastruktur, sondern integrativ auch der Stärkung der Informationskompetenz auf allen Ebenen der Organisation. Da diese Herausforderung das gesamte System Hochschule betrifft, wird der Begriff der Informationskompetenz hier gegenüber seiner herkömmlichen Verwendung deutlich ausgeweitet: Es wird nicht nur die akademische Informationskompetenz betrachtet, die in Lehre und Forschung zum Tragen kommt, sondern auch die organisationsbezogene Informationskompetenz, die sich auf alle hochschulinternen Abläufe bezieht. Zugleich geht es in der Empfehlung nicht, wie es der Titelbegriff "Hochschule im digitalen Zeitalter" nahe legen könnte, um Konzepte wie das einer Netzhochschule.

    Abstract
    Unser Gedächtnis ist weniger zuverlässig als wir uns das wünschen, manchmal lässt es uns auch im Stich. Je älter wir werden, umso mehr. Dabei zeigt die neuste Forschung: Sich alles merken zu können, ist gar nicht so wichtig. Das Gedächtnis ist nämlich viel mehr als bloß ein Speicher für Erinnerungen. Es erweist sich als höchst aktives Zukunftsorgan. Seine radikal auf das Kommende ausgerichtete Funktionsweise bestimmt, was wir uns merken, wie wir lernen und wer wir sind.

    Abstract
    "Haben die "Daten" bzw. die "Datenwissenschaft" (Data Science) die "Information" bzw. die Informationswissenschaft obsolet gemacht? Hat die "Data Science" mit ihren KI-gestützten Instrumenten die ökonomische und technische Herrschaft über die "Daten" und damit auch über die "Informationen" und das "Wissen" übernommen? Die meist in der Informatik/Mathematik beheimatete "Data Science" hat die wissenschaftliche Führungsrolle übernommen, "Daten" in "Informationen" und "Wissen" zu transferieren." "Der Wandel von analoger zu digitaler Informationsverarbeitung hat die Informationswissenschaft im Grunde obsolet gemacht. Heute steht die Befassung mit der Kategorie "Daten" und deren kausaler Zusammenhang mit der "Wissens"-Generierung (Erkennung von Mustern und Zusammenhängen, Prognosefähigkeit usw.) und neuronalen Verarbeitung und Speicherung im Zentrum der Forschung."     "Es gibt Daten, Informationen und Fakten. Wenn man mir eine Zahlenreihe vorsetzt, dann handelt es sich um Daten: unterscheidbare Einheiten, im Fachjargon: Items. Wenn man mir sagt, dass diese Items stündliche Temperaturangaben der Aare im Berner Marzilibad bedeuten, dann verfüge ich über Information - über interpretierte Daten. Wenn man mir sagt, dies seien die gemessenen Aaretemperaturen am 22. August 2016 im Marzili, dann ist das ein Faktum: empirisch geprüfte interpretierte Daten. Dieser Dreischritt - Unterscheiden, Interpretieren, Prüfen - bildet quasi das Bindemittel des Faktischen, «the matter of fact». Wir alle führen den Dreischritt ständig aus und gelangen so zu einem relativ verlässlichen Wissen und Urteilsvermögen betreffend die Dinge des Alltags. Aber wie schon die Kurzcharakterisierung durchblicken lässt, bilden Fakten nicht den Felsengrund der Realität. Sie sind kritikanfällig, sowohl von der Interpretation wie auch von der Prüfung her gesehen. Um bei unserem Beispiel zu bleiben: Es kann durchaus sein, dass man uns zwei unterschiedliche «faktische» Temperaturverläufe der Aare am 22. August 2016 vorsetzt.
