    Abstract
    Am 26. Januar startet "Zeitgeschichte-online" - ein neues Internetportal mit einem umfangreichen Informationsangebot für die zeithistorische Forschung. Das Portal erschließt zeithistorische Internet-Ressourcen, enthält Tagungsberichte, Rezensionen sowie redaktionell betreute Themenangebote und ermöglicht eine komfortable Katalog- und Datenbanksuche. Teil des Portals ist außerdem die neue Fachzeitschrift "Zeithistorische Forschungen/Studies in Contemporary History". Sie erscheint in zwei Ausgaben: einer Online-Version und einer parallelen Druckausgabe (beim Verlag Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht, http://www.v-r.de). Das Fachportal "Zeitgeschichte-online" ist ein gemeinsames Projekt des Zentrums für Zeithistorische Forschung Potsdam und der Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin - Preußischer Kulturbesitz. Es ist zugleich als ein Modul des geschichtswissenschaftlichen Portals "Clio-online" konzipiert (http://www.clioonline.de) und kooperiert eng mit dem Informationsdienst "H-Soz-u-Kult" (http://hsozkult.geschichte.hu-berlin.de). Das Projekt wird von der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft gefördert. Ausführlichere Projektinformationen gibt es unter http://www.zeitgeschichte-online.de.

    Abstract
    Mit dem »ABC der Menschheit« wurde 2007 erstmals eines der vom Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung ausgerichteten Wissenschaftsjahre den Geisteswissenschaften gewidmet. Dies hat die geisteswissenschaftlichen Disziplinen für kurze Zeit ins Licht der Öffentlichkeit rücken lassen. Ob sie sich dort werden behaupten können wird unter anderem davon abhängen, inwieweit die ihnen zuteil gewordene Aufmerksamkeit sich auch in finanzieller Hinsicht, das heißt in einer stärkeren Unterstützung durch Förderorganisationen, auswirken wird. Die zukünftige Präsenz der Geisteswissenschaften in der Wissenschaftslandschaft wird aber auch davon abhängen, ob es ihnen gelingt, informationstechnologische Entwicklungen aufzugreifen und sich zunutze zu machen. Anja Beddies hat sich in ihrer Diplomarbeit mit digitalen Forschungsbibliotheken in den Geisteswissenschaften auseinandergesetzt und stellt hier ihre Ergebnisse vor.

    "Für Optimisten wie den amerikanischen Computerwissenschaftler Nicholas Negroponte bricht das kommende Digitalzeitalter wie eine Naturgewalt über uns herein. Als Zukunftsforscher kann ich jedoch nicht in den Tenor der üblichen kühnen Prophezeiungen der Medienbranche einstimmen. In Deutschland und den USA wird zwar viel über E-Commerce spekuliert. In Wirklichkeit nutzen aber die privaten Verbraucher dort Shopping, Reisebuchung und Bücherkauf per PC kaum (je unter 3 %), Hornebanking nur 5 % der Amerikaner und 3 % der Deutschen. Obwohl immer mehr Firmen online gehen, halten die Verbraucher weitgehend an ihren außerhäuslichen Konsumgewohnheiten fest. Bisher bietet das Netz gefühls- und erlebnismäßig einfach zu wenig. Auch 2010 werden über 90 % des privaten Verbrauchs nicht über OnlineGeschäfte getätigt. Selbst wenn sich der E-Commerce-Umsatz der privaten Verbraucher jährlich verdoppeln sollte, werden die Online-Geschäfte in Deutschland auch 2002 keine 3 % des Einzelhandelsumsatzes ausmachen (derzeit: 22 Milliarden Mark Einzelhandelsumsatz zu 2,5 Milliarden aus Online-Geschäften). Die Frage, warum Online-Shopping so wenig Resonanz findet, lässt sich auf folgende Ursachen zurückführen: Erlebniskonsum in den Shopping-Centern ist attraktiver; wachsende Ungeduld bei langem Laden der Website, Unzufriedenheit über verwirrend gestaltete Online-Shops, Enttäuschung über nicht verfügbare Produkte sowie Abbruch der Kaufabsicht, wenn das Shop-System abstürzt. Leider findet die digitale Revolution in Deutschland bisher fast nur auf Unternehmensseite statt, die Fragen nach den Bedürfnissen der Konsumenten bleiben weitgehend unbeantwortet.
    Wer sich ernsthaft um die eigene Zukunft Gedanken macht, wird die Altersvorsorge nicht nur als materielle, sondern auch als körperliche, soziale und mentale Daseinsvorsorge begreifen. Denn bessere Lebensbedingungen und medizinischer Fortschritt haben nicht nur die Lebenserwartung, sondern auch die durchschnittliche Rentenbezugsdauer verlängert (zum Beispiel 1960: 10 Jahre, 2000: 20 Jahre). Die meisten werden zukünftig ein Vierteljahrhundert im Ruhestand leben "müssen". Daher werden in der immer älter werdenden Gesellschaft Pharmaforschung, Bio- und Gentechnologien im Kampf gegen Krebs, Alzheimer oder Demenz boomen sowie gesundheitsnahe Branchen, die Care und Wellness, Vitalität und Revitalisierung anbieten. - Frauen bevorzugen weiterhin KKK und nicht WWW - Eine andere optimistische Prognose zum digitalen Zeitalter hält auch nicht stand. So verkündet eine aktuelle Werbekampagne der deutschen Bundesregierung den Slogan "Drei K sind out, WWW ist in. Kinder, Küche, Kirche sind für Frauen nicht mehr das Ein und Alles ..." Diese Behauptung geht weit an der Wirklichkeit des Jahres 2001 vorbei. Die Frauenpower von heute findet noch immer mehr in der Kirche als im World Wide Web statt. Nur 4 % der Frauen in Deutschland (Männer: 13 %) nutzen wenigstens einmal in der Woche privat Online-Dienste. Der Anteil der Frauen, die regelmäßig jede Woche in die Kirche gehen, ist fast fünfmal so hoch (19 %) - von den Besuchen in der Küche ganz zu schweigen; auch Kinder sind noch lange nicht abgeschrieben. Die Zuneigung der Deutschen zum Computer hält sich in Grenzen. Repräsentative Studien belegen, dass derzeit über 80 % der Bevölkerung in der Regel keinen PC zu Hause nutzen, dafür lieber an ihren alten TV-Gewohnheiten zwischen Tagesschau und Sportsendung festhalten, zwischendurch Handy-Kontakte aufnehmen oder den Anrufbeantworter "abarbeiten". Laut Verband der Elektrotechnik hat der Anteil der so genannten Computer-Muffel seit 1998 sogar zugenommen. Das PC-Zeitalter beziehungsweise Online-Jahrhundert ist offenbar schon zu Ende, bevor es überhaupt begonnen hat."

    Wer schnell wissenschaftliche Informationen zu Hause. auf seinem PC benötigt, kann, künftig bei www.vascoda.de fündig werden: Unter dieser Internet-Adresse. haben 37 deutsche Bibliotheken, Forschungsinstitute und Informationseinrichtungen ein fächerübergreifendes Internetportal eingerichtet. Angeschlossen sind auch das Deutsche Institut für Internationale Pädagogische Forschung in Frankfurt und das Institut für Soziologie der TU Darmstadt.

    "Wissenschaftler brauchen fundierte Informationen aus Quellen, auf die man sich verlassen kann. Die Suche nach solchen Quellen, wissenschaftlichen Aufsätzen, Dissertationen, Büchern, Datenbanken und Linklisten gestaltete sich bislang schwierig: Bibliotheken oder Verlage von Fachzeitschriften mussten einzeln angesteuert werden, einen zentralen, einheitlichen und einfachen Zugang gab es bislang, nicht. Das soll sich jetzt ändern: Das vom Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung (BMBF) und von der Deutschen; Forschungsgemeinsehaft (DFG) geförderte Internetportal "vascoda", das nach dem Willen seiner Initiatoren auch Grundbaustein für die "Digitale Bibliothek Deutschland" sein soll, will Forschern Zugang zu wissenschaftlicher Information unterschiedlichster Fachrichtungen und unterschiedlichster Formate bieten. Das ist bundesweit in dieser Form ebenso einzigartig wie die Tatsache, dass die an vascoda angeschlossenen Datenbanken ausschließlich ;,geprüfte" Informationen liefern sollen: "Fachbibliothekare und Fachwissenschaftler der Anbieter, die sich unter dem vascoda-Dach zusammengeschlossen haben, prüfen, welche Texte vdrfügbar gemacht werden", sagt Christine Burblies von der vascoda-Geschäftsstelle in Hannover. "So können wir gewährleisten, dass die Informationen wissenschaftlichen Ansprüchen genügen." Das macht dann auch den wesentlichen Unterschied zu anderen Suchmaschinen aus: Die Suchmaske des Wissenschaftsportals ist zwar ähnlich einfach zu handhaben wie die Internet-Suchmaschine Google - vascoda verirrt sich aber nicht im World Wide Web. Und während andere Internet-Suchmaschinen nicht den Zugriff auf das so genannte "invisible web" bieten, also beispielsweise auf Bibliothekskataloge, ermöglicht vascoda auch den Zugriff auf dieses unsichtbare Netz. Das Wissenschaftsportal ist unentgeltlich nutzbar, und auch ein Großteil der Informationen ist kostenlos zu beziehen. Es sind aber auch kostenpflichtige Informationen verfügbar - zum Beispiel aus Verlagsangeboten und kommerziellen Datenbanken. Wer Informationen etwa zu soziologischen Fragen sucht, landet sicher auch auf den Internetseiten des Instituts für Soziologie in Darmstadt (www.ifs.tu-darmstadt.de/forsch.htm), das ebenso zu den vascoda-Anbietern gehört wie das Deutsche Institut für Internationale Pädagogik (DIPF) in Frankfurt (www.dipfde/index_1024.htm). In vascoda eingebunden sind zur Zeit 23 virtuelle Fachbibliotheken (ViFas), die vier großen Informationsverbünde EconDoc (Wirtschaft), GetInfo (Naturwissenschaften und Technik), infoconnex (Pädagogik, Sozialwissenschaften, Psychologie) und Medizin sowie die Elektronische Zeitschriftenbibliothek (EZB), ein kooperativer Service von 209 Bibliotheken zur Bereitstellung von elektronischen Zeitschriften, -die im Internet publiziert werden. "Wir planen überdies die Erweiterung um das Fach Germanistik, und wenn es soweit ist, wird die Stadt- und Universitätsbibliothek Frankfurt diesen Service bereitstellen", sagt Burblies."

    Abstract
    Die Virtuellen Fachbibliotheken bieten einen fachspezifischen Zugriff auf wissenschaftsrelevante Informationen. Sie reagieren damit auf die unüberschaubare - weil unstrukturierte - Informationsfülle im Internet. Gefördert wird der Aufbau Virtueller Fachbibliotheken durch die Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft DFG im Rahmen des Förderprogramms "Elektronische Publikationen im Literatur- und Informationsangebot wissenschaftlicher Bibliotheken". Unter dem Namen VASCODA werden die Virtuellen Fachbibliotheken zusammen mit den vom Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung BMBF geförderten Informationsverbünden wie z.B. Getlnfo ein gemeinsames Portal für Fachinformation in Deutschland bilden. Virtuelle Fachbibliothek Physik: Aufgabe der Virtuellen Fachbibliothek Physik ViFaPhys ist es also, einen integrierten Zugang zu physikrelevanten Informationen und Dienstleistungen zu bieten. Aufgrund ihrer Funktion als Deutsche Zentrale Fachbibliothek für Physik koordiniert die Technische Informationsbibliothek Hannover den Aufbau der Virtuellen Fachbibliothek Physik. Sie stützt sich hierbei auf Erfahrungen, die bereits beim Aufbau der Virtuellen Fachbibliothek Technik gesammelt werden konnten.
