    "Quantenphysik ist bizarr und komisch, und sie widerspricht komplett unserem gesunden Menschenverstand" oder ganz einfach "Die spinnen, die Physiker" - so oder ähnlich ist die Wahrnehmung vieler Menschen, wenn es um die Grundtheorie der modernen Physik geht. Die These dieses Buches lautet: "Quantenphysik, so bizarr und abgehoben sie erscheinen mag, ist für unser heutiges Leben die bedeutendste wissenschaftliche Theorie. Und ihr Einfluss ist bei weitem nicht an irgendein Ende gelangt. Da kommt noch einiges auf uns zu!" Der Autor steigt dabei mitten in unser Alltagsleben ein: Sie wollen mehr über heutige und zukünftige Technologien erfahren? Dann beschäftigen Sie sich mit dem Quantencomputer oder dem Quanteninternet; Technologien, deren erste Prototypen in den letzten Jahren möglich wurden und schon sehr bald unser tägliches Leben bestimmen werden.     "In Das offene Universum: Ein Argument für den Indeterminismus präsentiert Popper eine Kritik des 'wissenschaftlichen' und des metaphysischen Determinismus und argumentiert, daß die klassische Physik den Determinismus genauso wenig voraussetzt oder impliziert wie die Quantenphysik. Dennoch stellt er fest, daß der metaphysische Determinismus den Werken vieler zeitgenössischer Quantenphysiker immer noch zugrundeliegt, inklusive den Werken von Gegnern des Determinismus. Popper verfolgt die Rollen, die die subjektive Interpretation der Wahrscheinlichkeit in der Physik immer noch spielt, bis hin zu diesen metaphysischen deterministischen Voraussetzungen [.]. Der [.] Band tritt in seiner Abhandlung über den Determinismus für die Ansicht ein, daß unsere Rationalität, was die Voraussage des zukünftigen Wachstums des menschlichen Wissens anbelangt, begrenzt ist. Wenn es keine solche Grenze gäbe, wären ernsthafte Argumente sinnlos: und ihr Auftreten wäre eine Illusion.Popper argumentiert also, daß die menschliche Rationalität, was Kritik anbelangt, unbegrenzt ist, jedoch begrenzt, was ihre Voraussagekraft anbelangt; und er zeigt, daß die Unbegrenztheit und die Begrenztheit jede in ihrem Gebiet notwendig sind, damit es die menschliche Rationalität überhaupt geben kann."     Abstract
    The FRBR model is by many considered to be an important contribution to the next generation of bibliographic catalogues, but a major challenge for the library community is how to use this model on already existing MARC-based bibliographic catalogues. This problem requires a solution for the interpretation and conversion of MARC records, and a tool for this kind of conversion is developed as a part of the Norwegian BIBSYS FRBR project. The tool is based on a systematic approach to the interpretation and conversion process and is designed to be adaptable to the rules applied in different catalogues.

    Abstract
    Ein überfordertes Gutachter-System, knapper fließende Forschungsgelder sowie die starke Faszination von Ranglisten bewirken zunehmend den Einsatz bibliometrischer Methoden zur Messung von Forschungsqualität. Grundlage der meisten Bewertungen ist der Science Citation Index, der nun auch in der Version als Online-Datenbank für umfangreiche Analysen genutzt werden kann. Erweiterungen der Retrievalsprache beim Host STN International ermöglichen statistische Analysen, die bisher nur dem SCI-Hersteller und wenigen Spezialisten vorbehalten waren. Voraussetzung für eine sinnvolle Anwendung sind vor allem die Wahl geeigneter Selektionskriterien sowie die sorgfältige Interpretation der Ergebnisse im Rahmen der Grenzen dieser Methoden

    Abstract
    Menschen sind Wesen, die etwas verstehen (oder mißverstehen) können. Das Buch behandelt die Grundlagen einer allgemeinen Theorie des Verstehens und der Interpretation. Eine Reise durch Formen hermeneutischer Reflexion führt von den Verfahren der Allegorese über die Hermeneutica generalis der Neuzeit bis zur Analytischen Philosophie der Sprache und der Philosophischen Hermeneutik H.-G. Gadamers. Bei allen Diskontinuitäten wird seit dem 17. Jahrhundert ein zusammenhängendes Projekt erkennbar, das die Bezeichnung "allgemeine Hermeneutik" verdient. Die Hermeneutik ist eine Disziplin der theoretischen Philosophie, eng verzahnt mit der Erkenntnistheorie, der Sprach- und Zeichenphilosophie, der Philosophie des Geistes sowie der Methodologie. Der Allgemeinheitscharakter der Hermeneutik hat zwei Aspekte. Sie hat einen weiten Gegenstandsbereich: alle Phänomene, bei denen ein Unterschied zwischen Richtig-und Falschverstehen intersubjektiv etabliert ist. Zudem sind allgemeine Grundsätze der Interpretation in Geltung, unter denen Prinzipien der hermeneutischen Billigkeit oder Nachsicht prominent sind: Wahrheits-, Konsistenz-und Rationalitätsunterstellungen. Im zweiten Teil wird der Status allgemeiner Interpretationsprinzipien geklärt: Sie sind Präsumtionsregeln mit widerleglichen Präsumtionen. Die hermeneutischen Präsumtionen sind konstitutive Bedingungen für die Praxen der Verständigung mit Zeichen und der alltagspsychologischen Erklärung von Handlungen sowie für die Anwendung der dabei zentralen Begriffe ("propositionale Einstellung", "Bedeutung", "Handlung" etc.). Im dritten Teil wird am Beispiel des Sprachverstehens vorgeführt, wie die Untersuchung zentraler Verstehensformen vonstatten gehen kann. Am Leitfaden des Verstehensbegriffs wird eine Neuorientierung der Sprachphilosophie vorgenommen.

    Der Band faßt die Resultate des Projekts ATLAS zusammen und stellt diese mit weiterführenden Betrachtungen der Öffentlichkeit vor. Interdisziplinär werden verschiedene Aspekte von 'Text' durchleuchtet: Semiotik, Linguistik, Psychologie, Germanistik, Informatik, Verlagswesen - sie stellen die Beiträge dieses Buches.     Abstract
    Seitdem im Jahre 1959 C. P. Snow ein Buch mit dem Titel The two Cultures erscheinen ließ, hat von neuem, und nicht nur in England, eine Diskussion über das Verhältnis von Wissenschaft und Literatur eingesetzt. Wissenschaft ist dabei im Sinne von Science eingeschränkt auf die strikten Erfahrungswissenschaften, während Literatur weit gefaßt ist und in gewissem Sinne auch das einschließt, was wir geisteswissenschaftliche Interpretation nennen. Die Abhandlung, mit der Aldous Huxley unter dem Titel Literature and Science in die Kontroverse eingegriffen hat, beschränkt sich freilich auf eine Konfrontation der Naturwissenschaften mit der belletristischen Literatur.
