    Abstract
    The second edition of Understanding Search Engines: Mathematical Modeling and Text Retrieval follows the basic premise of the first edition by discussing many of the key design issues for building search engines and emphasizing the important role that applied mathematics can play in improving information retrieval. The authors discuss important data structures, algorithms, and software as well as user-centered issues such as interfaces, manual indexing, and document preparation. Significant changes bring the text up to date on current information retrieval methods: for example the addition of a new chapter on link-structure algorithms used in search engines such as Google. The chapter on user interface has been rewritten to specifically focus on search engine usability. In addition the authors have added new recommendations for further reading and expanded the bibliography, and have updated and streamlined the index to make it more reader friendly.

    Abstract
    Ausgehend von theoretischen Indexierungsansätzen wird das klassische Vektorraum-Modell für automatische Indexierung (mit dem Trennschärfen-Modell) erläutert. Das Clustering in Information-Retrieval-Systemem wird als eine natürliche logische Folge aus diesem Modell aufgefaßt und in allen seinen Ausprägungen (d.h. als Dokumenten-, Term- oder Dokumenten- und Termklassifikation) behandelt. Anschließend werden die Suchstrategien in vorklassifizierten Dokumentenbeständen (Clustersuche) detailliert beschrieben. Zum Schluß wird noch die sinnvolle Anwendung der Clusteranalyse in Information-Retrieval-Systemen kurz diskutiert

    Abstract
    In diesem Beitrag wird ein adaptives Information-Retrieval-Modell im Kontext Digitaler Bibliotheken vorgestellt, das während des Informationsprozesses lernt, Beziehungen zwischen Repräsentationsformen und Informations-Objekten herzustellen. Die aus großen Evaluierungsstudien abgeleiteten Erkenntnisse, dass Relevance Feedback und Polyrepräsentation echte Mehrwerte darstellen und zu besserer Retrievalqualität führen, dienen dabei als Grundlage. Um eine stärkere Adaption zu leisten, wird das Modell um Strategien erweitert, die Benutzer-, Dokument- und Anfrageeigenschaften einbeziehen. Im Rahmen Digitaler Bibliotheken spielen insbesondere Transformationen unterschiedlich erschlossener Objekte eine wichtige Rolle zur Kompensation semantischer Heterogenität.     Abstract
    Erfahrungen im Cross Language Evaluation Forum (CLEF) und die Beschäftigung mit Fragestellungen zum MIMOR-Modell haben den Bedarf für ein Framework zur Integration heterogener Retrieval-Komponenten aufgezeigt, mit dein sich einzelne Schritte des Retrieval-Prozesses individuell konfigurieren, untersuchen und optimieren lassen. RECOIN stellt ein Meta-Framework zur Verfügung, das den Programmieraufwand für die Integration neuer oder bereits existierender Retrieval-Bausteine minimiert und außerdem die Steuerung und Protokollierung verwendeter Objekte, Methoden und Parameter des Retrieval-Prozesses ermöglicht.

    Abstract
    Informationsdienste werden heutzutage von großen Teilen der Bevölkerung im Berufs- wie im Privatleben genutzt. Es ist ein wichtiges informationswissenschaftliches Thema, Informationsdienste adäquat zu beschreiben und ihre Qualität zu bewerten. Unser Information Service Evaluation (ISE) Modell führt unterschiedliche Traditionen der Evaluations- sowie der Technologieakzeptanzforschung zusammen und besteht aus fünf Dimensionen: Qualität des Informationsdienstes, Nutzer, Informationsakzeptanz, Informationsumfeld und Zeit. Der Überblicks­artikel erläutert diese Dimension und bietet einen Einblick in ein flexibel handhabbares und umfassendes holistisches Modell der Beschreibung und Bewertung von Informationsdiensten.

    Abstract
    In diesem Beitrag wird ausgehend von einem ungelösten Problem der Informationserschließung ein Modell vorgestellt, das die Methoden und Erfahrungen zur inhaltlichen Dokumenterschließung mittels kognitiv zu interpretierender Dokumentationssprachen mit den Möglichkeiten formaler Wissensrepräsentation verbindet. Die Kernkomponente des Modells besteht aus der Nutzung von Inferenzen entlang der Pfade typisierter Relationen zwischen den in Facetten geordneten Entitäten innerhalb einer Wissensrepräsentation zur Bestimmung von Treffermengen im Rahmen von Retrievalprozessen. Es werden die möglichen Konsequenzen für das Indexieren und Retrieval diskutiert.

    Abstract
    Ein Modell für die Informationssuche in einer verteilten Multimedia-Dokumentkollektion wird vorgestellt. Das Modell basiert auf dem probabilistischen Anordnungsprinzip. NAch der Berechnung individueller Ranglisten zu den einzelnen Subkollektionen werden diese schrittweise in eine finale Rangliste überführt, in der die Dokumente gemäß ihrer Relevanzwahrscheinlichkeiten geordnet sind. Dabei können die Dokumente (bzw. Dokumentpassagen, falls es sich um multimediale Dokumente handelt) aus verschiedenen Subkollektionen mit verschiedenen Verfahren indexiert werden. Auch lassen sich unterschiedliche probabilistische Verfahren zur Berechnung der subkollektionsspezifischen Ranglisten einsetzen. Damit wird die Integration von Dokumenten beliebigen Typs unterstützt. Übredies ist das zugrundeliegende Datenvolumen beliebig skalierbar. Das Modell wird durch ein Kriterium zur Einschränkung des Suchraums erweitert, um die effiziente Informationssuche zu ermöglichen. Schwerpunkte sind die Auswahl der zur Anwendung kommenden Lehrmethoden, die methodisch-didaktische Aufbereitung der Lehrinhalte sowie die entsprechende gestalterische Realisierung.Die Tutoriallösungen werden an ausgewählten Beispielen demonstriert. Anhand der Beispiele wird verdeutlicht, dass Online-Tutorials als neues Lehrund Lernmedium zum einen den Lehrenden gestatten, Inhalte in erweiterter Form anzubieten und zum anderen den Lernenden umfangreiche Möglichkeiten der Aufnahme und Verarbeitung des Lehrstoffes bieten.
