- Diese Arbeit gibt einen auch für Nicht-Sinologen verständlichen Einblick in die bibliographische Welt dieses wichtigen außereuropäischen Kulturkreises und konfrontiert sie mit den existierenden Regelwerken für europäische Sprachen (RAK/AACR2). Der zweite Teil der Studie beschreibt nach einer Darstellung der Voraussetzungen für die Automatisierung im Hard- und Softwarebereich unter anderem die Katalogisierung in den amerikanischen CJK-Datenbanken von RLIN und OCLC und dann den gegenwärtigen Stand der automatischen Katalogisierung chinesischer Werke in Deutschland an drei Fallbeispielen: UB Heidelberg, SBB-PK, BSB München. Allegro erweist sich als geeignetes System auch für die Katalogisierung chinesischer Werke

- Abstract
- Seit der 1983 in zweiter Auflage erschienenen 'Katalogkunde: Formalkataloge und formale Ordnungsmethoden' hat sich durch die elektronische Datenverarbeitung die Arbeit im Bereich der Katalogisierung einschneidend verändert. Einerseits ist ein gewisser Entwicklungsprozeß noch nicht abgeschlossen (Regelwerke, Datenformate, Einbindung in den allgemeinen Informations- und Kommunikationsprozeß), andererseits ist das Wissen sowohl um konventionelle als auch um elektronische Kataloge auch in 'unsicheren Zeiten' nicht verzichtbar. Entsprechend versteht sich die Einführung als Hilfe für Unterricht, Fortbildung und Praxis in Zeiten des Umbruchs und der Entwicklung. Sie möge deshalb auch denen dienen, die nicht unmittelbar mit der Katalogisierung zu tun haben, aber Zusammenhänge erkennen wollen und Entscheidungen zu treffen haben

- Abstract
- Vielen Bibliotheksbenutzern wird inzwischen mehr und mehr bewußt: Alle Vernetzungsbestrebungen in Bibliotheksbereich, die lokale Traditionen zugunsten eines überregionalen Nachweises der Bestände aufgeben, handeln auch gegen die Benutzerinteressen. Wir werden uns zunehmend klar darüber, daß von den meisten wissenschaftlern der lokale Online-Katalog allein für Literaturrecherchen herangezogen wird, und zwar aus dem Grund, daß das gesuchte Buch so schnell und unkompliziert wie möglich zur Hand sein soll. Diese Feststellung impliziert auch den Gedanken, daß die Aufgabe guter lokaler Katalogisierungstraditionen möglicherweise ein unwiederbringlicher Verlust ist, ein Schritt hin zu einer schlechteren und oberflächlicheren Information. Wie sich eine überregionale Verbesserung der Nachweissituation unter gleichzeitiger Bewahrung lokaler Traditionen darstellen kann, ist Gegenstand der folgenden Ausführungen. Sie bahandeln das Thema aus dem Blickwinkel der Bilbiotheken, Archive und Museen, deren aufgabe im Nachweis und der Bewahrung von Unikaten besteht. die hier behandelte Metadatendiskussion bezieht sich also auf die Beschreibungskriterien nicht für digitales Material, sondern für Manuskripte, Briefe, Gegenstände

- Die Diskussion um Regelwerks- und Formatablösung hat im ÖB-Bereich zwei Ausprägungen: eine bibliothekspolitische und eine fachlich/inhaltliche, wobei bisher überwiegend bibliothekspolitisch diskutiert wird, kaum fachlich/inhaltlich, denn nach derzeitigem Wissen eröffnet die Ablösung öffentlichen Bibliotheken keinerlei praktische Verbesserung in der täglichen Bibliotheksarbeit - ihre Arbeit findet nun einmal ausschließlich im nationalen Rahmen ohne jedwede internationale Verflechtung statt.

- "Solche Maßnahmen sind in der derzeitigen finanziellen Situation den kommunalen Unterhaltsträgern nicht zu vermitteln, in dieser Situation geht es für viele Bibliotheken ums nackte Überleben. Und in dieser Situation fragt sich zunehmend auch das bibliothekarische Personal in welcher Breite und Tiefe Erschließung in der Zukunft noch stattfinden sollte: die Vermeidung einer Bibliotheksschließung hat allemal Vorrang vor einer Einführung von neuen Formaten und Regelwerken, es sei denn, diese ginge mit so enormen wirtschaftlichen Vorteilen einher, dass damit eine spürbare Entspannung der finanziellen und personellen Situation möglich würde. Die Diskussion ist auch deshalb überwiegend bibliothekspolitisch, weil sich nun für viele OB erstmals manifestiert, dass sich in den letzten Jahren - offenbar ohne es wahrgenommen zu haben - Macht- und Einflussstrukturen im deutschen Bibliothekswesen herausgebildet haben, für die der ÖB-Bereich nur eine nachgeordnete Rolle zu spielen scheint und die die existentiellen Nöte der ÖB negieren, indem sie ihnen einen Umstieg aufdrängen, der aus ÖB-Sicht nur den Charakter bibliothekarischer L'Art pour l'art hat. Ein gleichsam systemimmanentes, weil selbstverschuldetes Problem behindert zudem die Beschäftigung mit und Beurteilung der Zukunft der Erschließung in unseren Bibliotheken, denn die fachlich/inhaltliche Diskussion darüber lahmt, und das seit langem, weil in den letzten 20 Jahren der Stellenwert der Formal- und Sacherschließung in den OB kontinuierlich zurückgegangen ist. Die Zeiten, als Direktorinnen und Direktoren großer ÖB Koryphäen auf den Gebieten der formalen und sachlichen Erschließung waren, sind im grau der Bibliotheksgeschichte kaum noch auszumachen, deren Stellen sind heute von Bibliotheksmanagern eingenommen, für die Erschließung zwar nowendiger Bestandteil jeder Bibliotheksorganisation ist, aber ein nachgeordneter. Das auf eine schlichte formel gebrachte Credo lautet: Warum Erschließung, wir haben doch Computer, Datenverarbeitung und das Internet. Von vielen Fachleuten werden die dahinter liegenden komplexen Vorgänge der Aufbereitung von Informationen in leichtfertiger Weise negiert. All das rächt sich nun, wenn es darum geht, die auf dem Tisch liegenden Vorschläge für die Aufrüstung unserer Erschließung zu beurteilen."

- Abstract
- "Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records" bezeichnet ein Datenmodell, welches es ermöglicht bibliographische Datensätze hierarchisch darzustellen. Dazu werden Entitäten definiert, welche untereinander in Verbindung stehen und so die katalogisierten Medien beschreiben. In dieser Arbeit wird das FRBR-Modell in Form einer relationalen Datenbank realisiert. Dazu wird das Programm SQL-Server 2014 genutzt, um es später mit dem linearen Datenbanksystem "Midos6" in Hinblick auf Datenmodulation und daraus resultierende Darstellungsmöglichkeiten zu vergleichen.

- Abstract
- Mit der ersten Auflage von Basiswissen RDA lag erstmals ein deutschsprachiges Lehrbuch für das neue, internationale Katalogisierungsregelwerk RDA (Resource Description and Access) vor. Seither wurde nicht nur das Regelwerk selbst an vielen Stellen verändert, sondern auch die deutschsprachigen Anwendungsrichtlinien wurden erheblich erweitert und verfeinert - nicht zuletzt aufgrund der Praxiserfahrungen seit dem Beginn der aktiven Katalogisierung mit RDA. Die überarbeitete und erweiterte Neuauflage - präsentiert die Katalogisierungsregeln auf dem aktuellen Stand von 2017 - bietet an vielen Stellen zusätzliche Details und Erläuterungen - geht besonders auf typische Fragen und Probleme ein, die beim Katalogisieren mit RDA auftreten - wurde um Beispiele und Erklärungen für verschiedene Themenbereiche erweitert (u.a. - Abstract
- LibraryThing.com ist eine Web 2.0 Anwendung, die sich der Community-Bildung verschrieben hat und dazu (Privat-)Bibliotheken ins Zentrum stellt. Die Nutzer erstellen dabei die Inhalte der Kataloge einerseits durch Import von Daten, andererseits durch eigenständige Eingabe. Dabei werden auch zu Autoren Seiten angelegt, die die Nutzer mit diversen Daten anreichern können. In dieser Arbeit werden diese Bestrebungen hinsichtlich der Autorenseiten dargestellt und mit der Personennamendatei der Deutschen Nationalbibliothek verglichen. Dabei wird aufgezeigt, welche Unterschiede und Gemeinsamkeiten bestehen. Schließlich wird untersucht in welcher Form in LibraryThing Inhalte generiert werden und ob sie fachlichen Ansprüchen an Bibliothekskataloge genügen können.
