- Abstract
- Studies the value of scientific articles' titles and abstracts as sources of terms for document indexing in relation to 6 areas of knowledge: library and information science, medicine, chemistry, biology, psychology and physics, indexed in the databases ISOC, IME and ICYT of the CSIC. Also examines the syntagmatic structures of the indexing terms found in the field 'descriptors'. as well as the relationship between length of document and number of descriptors. Concludes that if the abstracts are not well made and the titles are not precise, they are not definitive sources for the extractions of concepts; the most common syntactic structure is the noun phrase, followed by noun+adjective and noun+noun; and no significant relationship was found between length of document and number of descriptors assigned to it

- Abstract
- A systematic literature review is carried out, detailing the research topics and the methods and techniques used in information science in studies published between 2000 and 2019. The results obtained allow us to affirm that there is no consensus on the core topics of information science, as these evolve and change dynamically in relation to other disciplines, and with the dominant social and cultural contexts. With regard to the research methods and techniques, it can be stated that they have mostly been adopted from social sciences, with the addition of numerical methods, especially in the fields of bibliometric and scientometric research.

- A discussion of the importance of clear cataloguing policies and routines as the basis of quality control, in relation to the methods used in the College of Mexico Library. The fundamental principle is to prevent errors occuring rather than to correct them subsequently. Indices of quality and effiency in relation to errors which do and do not affect retrieval, established through monthly review of samples of the work of each cataloguer, are used to monitor activities and ensure high standards. - The Commercial Law Thesaurus was elaborated as an application of a doctoral investigation into the application of a conceptual model to legal information retrieval. Justifies the need for such a thesaurus, briefly describes the genesis of its construction, and outlines conclusions obtained. - Shows the possibilities that exist to create a basic hypertext interface for a thesaurus management system. The project has been built in 3 stages: conceptual data model for the thesaurus; development of the management tools, that is, the thesaurus management system; and the hypertext interfaces. The system has been developed on Windows and combines the power of relational database management systems and the navigational flexibility of Guide, a hypertext shell. presents 2 interface models. - Abstract
- Discusses the history of UDC in Spain from 1895 (when the first International Bibliography Conference aroused interest) to 1989, chiefly in terms of the contributions made by notable individual librarians, in terms of testing out, modifying and adapting UDC for their own collections. Changes of government in 1923 and 1931 and the consequent political upheavals prevented any state action, until 1939 when UDC became mandatory in all state-run libraries, and fully translated version finally became available. In 1989 this obligation was dropped, which may well make inter-library coordination more difficult in the future

- Abstract
- The notion of a literary canon, a discriminatory hierarchisation which results in paralysing rigidity in printed media, finds redefinition in oral and cybernetic practices. Oral traditions are essentially marginal, while in cyberspace the very notions of author and text become problematic. Limitations of time, space and political pressure dictate the canonisation function of the literary system. The solution lies in creating objective dictionaries of all possible information about a body of texts, to be made available on CD-ROM

- Abstract
- Terminology is essential for professional discourse, and therefore for professional communication. Without such communication there is no transfer of knowledge, and hence training and development become impossible. The question therefore is how to develop terminology. In Scandinavian countries terminology planning is a well established concept within the context of linguistic planning and national linguistic policy. In other countries the concept is hardly known, with the exception of standardization. The Scandinavian NORDTERM network, established in 1976, offers a proven model for encouraging regional terminological development

- Abstract
- Account of the development of ISBD for cataloguing, focusing chiefly on the IFLA programme initiated at the International Meeting of Cataloguing Experts held in Copenhagen in 1969, which resulted in the 1974 1st official ed. of ISBD(M) for monographs. Versions were developed separately for serials (S), cartographic materials (CM) and non-book materials (NBM), resulting in incompatibilities resolved by the creation of a new general ISBD structure (G) in 1977. Since then new editions of (M), (S), (CM) and (NBM) have been produced, together with versions for printed music (PM) and ancient materials (A).
