- Abstract
- Mit dem Paradigmenwechsel, der für Bibliotheken durch die verstärkte Nutzung elektronischer Medien eingesetzt hat, verlieren sie zunehmend die Möglichkeit, ihrer Aufgabe nachzukommen, das kulturelle und wissenschaftliche Erbe zu archivieren und ihren Nutzern zur Verfügung zu stellen. Im Mittelpunkt des Sammelns steht in Zukunft der Text jeglicher Form anstelle des Mediums Buch. Das bedingt neue Wege der Erwerbung, der Bewahrung und des Umgangs mit Texten. Die Voraussetzungen dafür, dass jede Bibliothek, die einen Sammel- und Archivauftrag erfüllt, elektronische Texte speichern und auf zeitgemäße Weise in ihrem Katalog nachweisen kann, sind jedoch noch nicht gegeben. Das Schaffen dieser rechtlichen, technischen und organisatorischen Voraussetzungen ist unbedingt notwendig, damit Bibliotheken weiterhin effektiv Wissenschaft und Forschung unterstützen und befördern können.

- Abstract
- Der Beitrag verfolgt das Ziel einer praxisorientierten Bestandsaufnahme der aktuellen Situation auf dem Markt kostenpflichtiger E-Books aus der Perspektive wissenschaftlicher Bibliotheken. Ausgehend von den Erwartungen, die von Nutzer- und Bibliotheksseite an diese relativ neue Gattung elektronischer Medien gerichtet werden können, und dem den E-Books grundsätzlich unterstellten Potenzial wird der tatsächlich erreichte Stand näher beleuchtet. Untersucht werden dabei neben einer allgemeinen Markteinschätzung Aspekte wie gängige Zugriffsoptionen, Preis-und Geschäftsmodelle, Vertriebswege, Recherche- und Nutzungsmöglichkeiten oder auch Erschließungsfragen. Der Aufsatz mündet in einen exemplarischen Blick auf bisher gewonnene konkrete Erfahrungen mit E-Books an wissenschaftlichen Bibliotheken sowie die Andeutung möglicher Entwicklungsperspektiven.

- Abstract
- Die Sammlung und Archivierung von Websites hat sich seit Ende der 1990er-Jahre in einer Reihe von kulturbewahrenden Einrichtungen weltweit zu einem neuen Tätigkeitsfeld entwickelt. Einleitend wird zunächst die grundsätzliche Notwendigkeit der Webarchivierung erläutert, bevor die wichtigsten Grundlagen und Herausforderungen der Thematik kurz beschrieben werden. Eine Bestandsaufnahme beleuchtet die bisherigen Aktivitäten in ausgewählten deutschen Bibliotheken: Baden-Württembergisches Online-Archiv (BOA), SaarDok und edoweb sowie die Webarchivierung an der Bayerischen Staatsbibliothek und der SUB Hamburg. Daneben werden auch einige Projekte im wissenschaftlichen Bereich beschrieben. Abschließend wird der aktuelle Stand der Webarchivierung in deutschen Bibliotheken zusammengefasst und es werden mögliche Entwicklungsszenarien aufgezeigt.

- Abstract
- Seitdem Texte nicht mehr nur auf gedruckten Buchstaben, sondern in elektronischer Form auf dem flüchtigen alphanumerischen Code beruhen, wandeln sich auch die Risiken und Chancen des Sammlungsauftrages von Bibliotheken. Der ungeheure Zuwachs an nahezu unverzüglichem Informationszugang im Internet geht mit einer teilweise bewusst in Kauf genommenen Fokussierung auf erweiterte Gegenwart zuungunsten nachhaltiger Speicherung einher. Wo an die Stelle der Gesamterfassung von Publikationen der Gegenwart notwendig die stichprobenhafte Archivierung in Intervallen tritt, zeichnet sich ein neues Verhältnis von Zeit und kulturellem Gedächtnis ab. In der Zeitökonomie dynamischer Zwischenarchivierung obliegt es den Bibliotheken, sich diesem Trend zu öffnen und gleichzeitig zu widerstehen. Es bedarf einerseits der institutionell gesicherten Orte, nicht nur die Nutzeroberflächen des Web, sondern auch ihre Bedingungen (Quellcode bis hin zur Emulation von Computerhardware) für künftige Kulturkritik nachvollziehbar zu bewahren; andererseits gilt es mit neuen Formen der algorithmischen Erschließung solcher Big Data zu experimentieren.

- Abstract
- The telecommunications service is a scientific tool which libraries should use to save time in supplying information. Information can be read, retrieved, copied or discussed immediately with the help of electronic publishing. The service has great social potential. International cooperation is important yet national identity must be maintained and access to information guaranteed. If librarians regard electronic publishing simply as a technology, the readers will not accept it and the system will become ineffectual. More research is needed on copyright law problems. Electronic publishing improves data bank access and should overcome inequalities between regions and sections of the population.

- "Das DFG-Positionspapier zum elektronischen Publizieren vom Frühjahr 2005 (www.dfg.de/forschungs foerderung/wissenschaftliche_infrastruktur/lis/down load/pos_ papier_elektron_publizieren 0504.pdf) hat die aktuellen Defizite und Desiderate in diesem Bereich disziplinenübergreifend zu resümieren versucht. Die großen fächerspezifischen Unterschiede im Umgang mit wissenschaftlicher Fachliteratur (ob in gedruckter oder elektronischer Form), die darin aufgeführt worden sind, spiegeln sich auch in der im vergangenen Jahr veröffentlichten DFG-Studie zur Publikation und Rezeption wissenschaftlicher Arbeiten im Open Access (www.dfg.de/dfg_im_profil/zahlen_und_ fakten/statistisches_berichtswesen/open_access/ download/oa_ber_dt.pdf) wider. Daraus resultiert folgende Schlussfolgerung: Während sich auf einer grundsätzlichen Ebene Wünsche und Vorschläge »allgemeiner Art« zur Beförderung des elektronischen Publizierens formulieren lassen, können Erfolg versprechende Strategien gezielt nur unter Berücksichtigung der spezifischen - und eben divergierenden - Fächerbedürfnisse entwickelt werden. Für »Journal-orientierte« Fächer, in deren Publikationskultur der »kurze« Artikel eine ebenso zentrale Rolle spielt wie die Aktualität der Veröffentlichung, wird etwa die-für die Geisteswissenschaften relevante - Frage nach der Umsetzung elektronischer Monografien in die zweite Reihe gerückt werden können. Unter dieser Prämisse wollen die folgenden Bemerkungen erstens Thesen zum Ist-Zustand des elektronischen Publizierens formulieren und zweitens modellhaft Möglichkeiten der Integration des elektronischen Publizierens in die fächereigene Publikationspraxis umreißen."

- Abstract
- Der Beitrag untersucht, inwieweit die im deutschsprachigen Raum erscheinenden Zeitschriften für das Fachgebiet Bibliotheks- und Informationswesen offen zugänglich sind. Die betreffenden Journale werden identifiziert und besprochen. Der Autor differenziert dabei das Angebot nach den Kategorien reine Online-Zeitschriften mit vollständigem offenen Zugang, hybride Zeitschriften mit vollständigem offenen Zugang, Zeitschriften mit zeitverzögertem offenen Zugang sowie Zeitschriften mit teilweisem offenen Zugang. Die Anzahl der bibliothekarischen bzw. informationswissenschaftlichen Fachjournale ohne zumindest teilweise oder zeitverzögerte freie Zugänglichkeit ist im deutschsprachigen Raum erfreulicherweise sehr gering.
