- Abstract
- Der vorliegende Artikel diskutiert das Problem der Informationsarmut sowohl als quantitatives wie auch als qualitatives Problem. Auswirkungen mangelnder Informationsinfrastruktur sind Ausschluß weiter Teile der Menschehit von der Weltkommunikation, Ausschluß einzelner Gesellschaftsgruppen sowie eine kulturelle Homogenisierung. Quantitativem Informationsreichtum folgt nicht zwangsläufig Wissensreichtum. Die Konzentration im Informationssektor, die Informationsfreiheit und öffentliches Wissen sind Faktoren, die über Informationsarmut und -reichtum bestimmen

- Abstract
- Die neustes Spielart von Künstlicher Intelligenz (KI) ist die Agententheorie. Mit vielen autonomen, aber interagierenden Computerprogrammen (Agenten) lassen sich nicht nur Internet-Geschäfte abwickeln, sondern auch die Entwicklungen von Börsenkursen studieren. James E. Doran, seit anfang der 60er Jahre KI-Experte an der Universität Edinburgh lehrt heute an der Universität von Essex in Colchester und ist einer der führenden Agententheoretiker. Sein Spezialgebiet ist die 'Sozionik', die gesellschaftliche Vorgänge mit hilfe von Multiagentenprogrammen simuliert. Auf der Agents World im sommer in Paris provozierte Doran das Fachpublikum mit 3 Thesen, die er 'Crazy ideas' nannte, führte aber die letzte nicht näher aus. Grund: Er müsse den Sommer über genauer darüber nachdenken. Jetzt ist der Sommer vorbei und auch die dritte Crazy idea zu ende gebracht

- Abstract
- 28 Prozent der amerikanischen Internetnutzer/innen haben es bereits getan: Das freie Verschlagworten von Inhalten aller Art per Social Tagging gehört zu den Anwendungen aus dem Kontext von Web 2.0, die sich zunehmender Beliebtheit erfreuen (Rainie, 2007). Während sich die bisherige Forschung überwiegend inhaltsanalytisch mit dem Phänomen befasst, kommen im vorliegenden Beitrag so genannte "Power User" zu Wort. Um zu einer fundierteren Interpretation der in den Inhaltsanalysen gewonnenen Erkenntnisse beizutragen, wurden Interviews mit Personen durchgeführt, die mehrere Tagging Systeme parallel einsetzen, sich auch mit den technischen Grundlagen auskennen und als "Early Adopter" bereits seit geraumer Zeit aktiv sind. Entsprechend leitet der Beitrag von einer Synopse der aktuellen Literatur in die beschriebene Studie über und schließt mit einem Ausblick auf zukünftige Forschungsvorhaben im Kontext von Social Tagging.

- Digitale Revolution: Chance oder Gefahr für die Demokratie? Einst galten das Internet und die sozialen Medien als Chance auf unbegrenzten Zugang zu Wissen - und damit als Basis für eine neue Hochphase der demokratischen Debattenkultur. Doch stattdessen sind wir heute mit Hass im Netz, Fake-News und Verschwörungstheorien konfrontiert. Rechte Parteien und Organisationen wie die AfD, Pegida und die Identitäre Bewegung können fast ungehindert ihre Ideologien verbreiten. Doch dabei handelt es sich nicht um eine reine »Online-Radikalisierung«. Das beweist die Welle rechtsmotivierter Gewalt wie die Anschläge von Halle und Hanau und eine wachsende Akzeptanz rechter Positionen in der Bevölkerung. Die sozialen Medien haben sich zu einem Raum des Hasses und der Unwahrheit entwickelt. - Abstract
- Der Titel kann auf zweierlei Art verstanden werden: Als Beitrag von Semiotik/Sprachwissenschaft zum Bereich des Information Retrieval bzw. (allgemeiner) zu einer Theorie der Information oder als Frage zu einem Informationsbegriff in den "Disziplinen" Semiotik/Sprachwissenschaft. Im vorliegenden Zusammenhang wird aus praktischen Gründen auf den ersten Aspekt eingegangen.
