    Abstract
    Im Gesamtrahmen wissenschaftlicher Kommunikationsprozesse nimmt die Literatur eine besondere Stellung ein - was die Kommunikation zwischen Wissenschaftlern angeht, aber auch, was die Nutzbarmachung wissenschaftlicher Ergebnisse für die Gesellschaft angeht. Das Arbeiten mit Literatur (einschließlich Suchen, Beschaffen, Lesen, Auswerten und Schreiben) ist für den Wissenschaftler alltäglich, und es beansprucht einen wesentlichen Teil seiner Arbeitszeit. Genauere Kenntnisse dieser Tätigkeiten können eine wichtige Grundlage für die Gestaltung des Angebots von Bibliotheken und anderen Informationseinrichtungen darstellen. Aber: »The actual process of utilizing scientific literature is one of the less well understood phases of scientific communication.« - Diese Feststellung bezog Krishna Subramanyam in seinem enzyklopädischen Beitrag über die naturwissenschaftliche Literatur auf die vielfältigen Tätigkeiten des Naturwissenschaftlers im Hinblick auf Suche, Beschaffung und Verwendung der fachlich relevanten Literatur. Seitdem ist manches intensiver untersucht worden, gerade was die Rolle von Bibliotheken angeht. Aber unsere Kenntnisse des Gesamtprozesses sind nach wie vor lückenhaft, wie im vorliegenden Beitrag am Beispiel der Biologie gezeigt werden soll.

    Abstract
    Als Erfinder des «Allgemeinen» gilt, gemäß dem Bericht des Aristoteles und seit diesem Bericht, Sokrates. Er ist es, der nicht mehr danach suchte, woraus ein Ding zu dem geworden ist, was es ist, oder wie es entstanden ist, sondern danach, «was [ein Ding] ist», und somit ist Sokrates der erste gewesen, der die Herausarbeitung des Allgemeinen (?a?????) forderte und mit seinen Fragen seine Gesprächspartner zu dieser Herausarbeitung trieb bzw. lockte; die Definition (???sµ??) war das Ziel des sokratischen Gesprächs, und die sokratische Aporie war das Vehikel.

    Abstract
    Die Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft fördert in 23 Universitätsbibliotheken (Sondersammelgebieten), 47 Spezialbibliotheken und 3 zentralen Fachbibliotheken ein System der überregionalen Literatur- und Informationsversorgung. Dieses System kooperativer umfassender Sammlung weltweit vorhandener wissenschaftlicher Literatur sollte erstmals aus der Nutzerperspektive evaluiert werden. Es sollten Form und Umfang der tatsächlichen wie der potentiellen Nutzung sowie jetzige und zukünftige Bedarfe ermittelt werden, und zwar beispielhaft in den Fächern Anglistik, Betriebswirtschaft, Biologie, Geschichte und Maschinenbau. Das Projekt wurde 2002/2003 von der Universitäts- und Landesbibliothek Münster zusammen mit infas-Institut für angewandte Sozialwissenschaft GmbH durchgeführt. Diese Veröffentlichung zeigt den ersten Teil der Ergebnisse, die das Informationsverhalten von Wissenschaftlern und Wissenschaftlerinnen in den fünf Fächern betreffen.

    Abstract
    Eine der wesentlichen Aufgaben als Fachreferent*in ist die inhaltliche Erschließung der neuerworbenen Literatur, sowie die Begutachtung und Auswahl der neu erschienenen Werke in den jeweiligen Fachgebieten hinsichtlich der Relevanz für die eigenen Sammlungen gemäß dem Sammlungsprofil der TU Wien Bibliothek. Im Zuge der Corona-Krise wurde die herkömmliche Arbeitsweise in der Sacherschließung beeinträchtigt, und es haben sich neue Herausforderungen, aber auch Möglichkeiten ergeben. Neben der fehlenden Autopsie der Literatur leidet auch die Sichtung und Erwerbung neuer Literatur unter der physischen Abwesenheit vom Arbeitsplatz bzw. der entsprechenden technischen Infrastruktur. Auch der persönliche Austausch mit den Kolleg*innen wurde deutlich erschwert. Neben den Schwierigkeiten wurden aber auch die neuen Handlungsoptionen auf beruflicher und individueller Ebene positiv gesehen. In dem Artikel werden unsere individuellen Erfahrungen an der TU Wien Bibliothek sowie Ausblicke in die Zukunft wiedergegeben.

    Abstract
    Die Vermittlung von Informationskompetenz ist an vielen Hochschulbibliotheken etabliert. Dabei existieren sowohl fachübergreifende als auch fachspezifische Vermittlungskonzepte. Dieser Artikel leistet einen Beitrag zur fachspezifischen Vermittlung von Informationskompetenz an Biologen. Hierfür wurden mittels einer Umfrage die aktuellen Angebote der deutschen Hochschulbibliotheken im Fach Biologie und ihre Verankerung im Fachbereich ermittelt. Der Schwerpunkt in der Vermittlung von Informationskompetenz liegt auf den Studienanfängern. Anhaltspunkte zur Identifizierung der für die Zielgruppe der Graduierten wesentlichen Themengebiete und ihrer Recherchestrategien im Bereich Informationskompetenz liefern bereits vorhandene fachübergreifende Umfragen. Bislang waren die Biowissenschaften hierbei allerdings unterrepräsentiert. Deswegen erfolgte im Rahmen dieser Arbeit eine Befragung von Masterstudierenden und Promovierenden im Fach Biologie. Die Ergebnisse werden mit den in der Literatur verfügbaren Umfrageergebnissen verglichen, mit den aktuellen Papieren zur Informationskompetenz sowie den fachspezifischen Besonderheiten zusammengeführt und diskutiert. Zudem werden Anhaltspunkte und Ziele für die zukünftige Vermittlung von fachspezifischer Informationskompetenz an Biologen formuliert.

    Abstract
    Die Nachvollzieh- und Nutzbarkeit der rasant ansteigenden Menge digitaler Forschungsdaten wird seit einiger Zeit als eine zentrale strategische Herausforderung für die Leitungsebene von Universitäten gesehen. Bei der zentralen Koordination und der Umsetzung diesbezüglicher Konzepte in den Universitäten muss u. a. der bestehende Fächerkanon der jeweiligen Universität berücksichtigt werden. Vor diesem Hintergrund beschäftigt sich die vorliegende Arbeit speziell mit den Forschungsdaten-Repositorien des Fachbereichs Biologie. Folgende Fragen werden beleuchtet: (a.) Wie stark werden Forschungsdaten-Repositorien an den zehn renommiertesten biologischen Fakultäten in Deutschland genutzt? (b.) Welche Rolle übernehmen Bibliotheken an der Bereitstellung und im Service von biowissenschaftlichen Forschungsdaten-Repositorien? Die Daten für die vorliegende Arbeit wurden mittels einer Befragung der zehn renommiertesten Fakultäten Deutschlands und den zuständigen Bibliotheken per E-Mail erhoben.

    Abstract
    Die Systematik entstand zugleich mit der Wissenschaft Biologie und war die Grundlage der Evolutionstheorie. Nachdem Darwin in der natürlichen Zuchtwahl (Selektion) eine naturwissenschaftliche Brgündung für die Evolution gefunden hatte, wurde die Systematik auch zu einer Geschichtswissenschaft, zur Stammesgeschichte. Einen Höhepunkt erreicht die Systematik in Hennigs Theorie der phylogenetischen Systematik. Man hat versucht, Hennigs Ideen zu formalisieren und die Widersprüche zu minimieren. Das hat zur Einbeziehung mathematisch-statistischer Überlegungen in die Rekonstruktion von Stammbäumen geführt. Die heute mögliche Analyse der genetischen Schrift liefert Grundlagen für eine weitgehend exakte Rekonstruktion der Phylogenese

    Abstract
    Ich halte es nicht für sinnvoll, darüber zu spekulieren, wie sich eine Wissenschaft in den kommenden Jahrzehnten inhaltlich entwickeln könnte, Neue Theorien tauchen sehr schnell auf, gewinnen höchste Aufmerksamkeit und kehren dann langsam auf ein stabiles, bescheideneres Niveau zurück; man denke etwa an die Katastrophentheorie, an Chaos und Fraktale, an Fuzzy-Logik - vielleicht ist auch die Finanzmathematik schon in einem Normalisierungsprozess. Solche Entwicklungen, insbesondere das Auftreten solcher Phänomene, vorherzusagen, wäre Scharlatanerie. Aber es gibt natürlich auch langwellige Veränderungen des Charakters der Mathematik; so wechseln sich z.B. Phasen, in denen die "innere' Entwicklung der Mathematik dominiert, ab mit Phasen, in denen die Inhalte der Mathematik durch ihre Wechselwirkung mit anderen Wissenschaften bestimmt werden, Solche Phasen sind nie "rein" - immer gab es Mathematiker, die sowohl in reiner wie auch in angewandter Mathematik Bedeutendes leisteten, z.B. B. Riemann, H. Poincare, F. Klein oder N. Wiener. Aber Dominanzen waren unschwer zu erkennen, z.B. die Dominanz der reinen Mathematik im vergangenen Jahrhundert. Ebenso deutlich scheint es mir zu sein, dass wir uns seit wenigen Jahrzehnten im Phasenübergang befinden: Die Mathematik nähert sich wieder den anderen Wissenschaften - nicht nur der Physik, sondern auch der Chemie, Biologie und Medizin; sie nähert sich der Technik, z.B. den Informations- und Kommunikationstechnologien, der Werkstoffwissenschaft, der Robotik usw. Es gilt aber auch das Umgekehrte: Nicht nur Naturwissenschaft und Technik benötigen die Mathematik in steigendem Umfang, selbst Sozial- und Geisteswissenschaften "mathematisieren". Die Disziplinen insgesamt wachsen stärker zusammen: Ist dies vielleicht der Zukunftstrend? Hubert Markl, Präsident der Max-Planck-Gesellschaft, antwortet auf die Frage, ob die Biologie zur "Leitwissenschaft" des 21. Jahrhunderts wird: "Das immer rascher fortschreitende, tiefgründige Zusammenwachsen aller naturwissenschaftlichen Disziplinen, gemeinsam mit der praktischen Mathematik, zu einer einzigen umfassenden Wissenschaft von der Natur, die auch in weite Bereiche von Philosophie, Psychologie, Soziologie und Medizin vordringen wird, dürfte für die Wissenschaftsentwicklung des nächsten Jahrhunderts viel bestimmender sein als ein vermeintlicher Vorrang der Biologie. Erst diese Verbindung von Mathematik, Physik, Chemie und Biologie hat es möglich gemacht und wird weiter immer mehr Grundlage dafür sein, dass die Biowissenschaften sich endlich auch jenen Problemen stellen können, die ihnen ohne disziplinübergreifende Hilfestellung zu schwierig wären - nämlich alle Lebenserscheinungen bis hinein in die molekularen, ursächlichen Einzelheiten aufzuklären.     Natürlich steht es mir nicht an, weiter über Biologie zu reden, aber die Einschätzung der künftigen Rolle der Mathematik, in enger Zusammenarbeit mit anderen Wissenschaften an der "Aufklärung" und Gestaltung der Welt zu arbeiten - diese Einschätzung teile ich vollkommen: Die Mathematik wird also weder "Königin der Wissenschaften" sein noch ihre Sklavin; sie wird, wie es sich für ein demokratisches Gemeinwesen gehört, ihre Aufgabe und ihren Sinn hauptsächlich als gleichberechtigter Partner von Informatik, Naturwissenschaften, Technik, von Wirtschafts- und Sozialwissenschaften finden. Das spiegelt sich auch in einer sehr aktuellen Diskussion um den Bedarf an "Computerexperten" wider; die Debatte, die mit unscharfen Begriffen (was ist schon ein "Computerexperte"?) operiert und von geringem Fachwissen (wer von den Diskutanten hat sich je in Indien umgesehen oder wenigstens mit Indern ausführlich gesprochen?) beeinträchtigt wird, zeigt trotzdem, dass wir sowohl schnell auszubildende Softwareprogrammierer wie eben auch sogenannte MINT-Professionals brauchen. MINT - ich habe den Ausdruck in der Industrie gehört - heißt Mathematik + Informatik + Naturwissenschaft + Technik; solche Professionals werden wir nur selten im Ausland "einkaufen" können - sie sind auch dort rar und nicht nur in Deutschland Mangelware, Wir müssen solche MINT-Professionals schon selbst ausbilden - ich komme am Ende auf diese Ausbildungsfrage zurück.

    Abstract
    Forschungsdaten sind von zunehmender Wichtigkeit für die Wissenschaft, Forschungsförderer und schließlich auch für die Arbeit an Bibliotheken. Sie sollen nicht nur veröffentlicht werden, sondern nach ihrer Publikation auch auffindbar und nachnutzbar sein, wie von den FAIR-Prinzipien gefordert. Die beschreibenden Metadaten müssen daher in ausreichendem Detail vorliegen, sowie standardisiert und maschinenverwendbar sein, um den Datenaustausch zu ermöglichen. Im Zuge dieser Entwicklung haben sich verschiedene Metadatenschemata und weitere Metadatenstandards sowohl für eine generische Beschreibung von Forschungsdaten, als auch für fachspezifische Metadaten einer Wissenschaftsdisziplin oder -teildisziplin etabliert. In diesem Beitrag wird eine Auswahl von weitverbreiteten generischen Standards sowie exemplarisch einzelne fachspezifische Standards aus der Biologie und den Ingenieurwissenschaft vorgestellt. Dabei wird auch die Kultur des Datenaustausches in den behandelten Fachdisziplinen beleuchtet, in dessen Kontext sich die entsprechenden Metadatenschemata herausbildet haben. Weiterhin wird auch ein kurzer Ausblick auf die Plattformen, die den Austausch von Daten- und Metadatenstandards, sowie ihre Weiterentwicklung und ihre Referenz unterstützen einbezogen. Bei der Forschungsdokumentation und entsprechender Anwendung von Metadatenstandards im Forschungsalltag bestehen weiterhin Hürden aufgrund des Aufwandes. Softwareanwendungen die die Dokumentation erleichtern und in die Metadatenschemata integriert werden könnten werden kurz diskutiert. In all diesen Bereichen können sich Bibliotheken unterstützend oder gestaltend einbringen und ihre Expertise gewinnbringend in Kommunikation mit der Wissenschaft zur Verfügung stellen.

    Abstract
    Dieser Beitrag beschreibt a) die Ergebnisse einer Literaturstudie zur qualitativen Wahrnehmung wissenschaftlicher Publikationen, b) die Konstruktion eines daraus abgeleiteten Kriterienkatalogs zur Wahrnehmung der Qualität wissenschaftlicher Publikationen sowie c) der Überprüfung dieses Katalogs in qualitativen Interviews mit Wissenschaflterinnen und Wissenschaftlern aus dem Fachspektrum Chemie, Physik, Biologie, Materialwissenschaft und Engineering. Es zeigte sich, dass die Wahrnehmung von Qualität auf äußerlichen und von außen herangetragenen Faktoren, inhaltlichen / semantischen Faktoren und sprachlichen, syntaktischen sowie strukturellen Faktoren beruht.

    Abstract
    Das Deutsche Referenzzentrum für Ethik in den Biowissenschaften (DRZE) in Bonn veröffentlicht zusammen mit nationalen und internationalen Partnern den neuen, mehrsprachigen Thesaurus Ethik in den Biowissenschaften. Das Werkzeug zur Recherche und Verschlagwortung liegt derzeit in deutscher und englischer Sprache vor. Eine französische Version folgt 2005. Insbesondere die Online-Version des Thesaurus bietet komfortable Navigations- und Suchmöglichkeiten.
