- Abstract
- Die Systematik entstand zugleich mit der Wissenschaft Biologie und war die Grundlage der Evolutionstheorie. Nachdem Darwin in der natürlichen Zuchtwahl (Selektion) eine naturwissenschaftliche Brgündung für die Evolution gefunden hatte, wurde die Systematik auch zu einer Geschichtswissenschaft, zur Stammesgeschichte. Einen Höhepunkt erreicht die Systematik in Hennigs Theorie der phylogenetischen Systematik. Man hat versucht, Hennigs Ideen zu formalisieren und die Widersprüche zu minimieren. Das hat zur Einbeziehung mathematisch-statistischer Überlegungen in die Rekonstruktion von Stammbäumen geführt. Die heute mögliche Analyse der genetischen Schrift liefert Grundlagen für eine weitgehend exakte Rekonstruktion der Phylogenese

- Abstract
- Die Rolle der Symmetrie als Werkzeug der Orientierung des Menschen in Raum und Zeit ist in allen Epochen und Zivilisationen aufzuspüren. Sowohl das natur- und geisteswissenschaftliche Denken als auch die Künste und die Prinzipien menschlicher Handelns neigen dazu, sich in Strukturen symmetrischer Natur auszuformen. Zum Beispiel hat die zeitgenössische Physik, mit dem Rüstzeug der modernen Mathematik versehen, den Symmetriebegriff ins Zentrum des Interesses gerückt. Die in den letzten Jahren so erfolgreichen Bemühungen um eine Vereinheitlichung der Grundkräfte der Natur, die damit verbundene tiefe Einsicht in den Kosmos der Elementarteilchen und die daraus hervorgegangenen kosmologischen Erkenntnisse sind beeindruckende Belege für die Wirklichkeit des Symmetrieprinzips. - Abstract
- Unser Bild von der Welt hat sich innerhalb weniger Jahrzehnte durch die Erkenntnisse der modernen Naturwissenschaft und die Fortschritte auf technologischem Gebiet schneller und radikaler verändert als je zuvor in der Geschichte. Unsere Wirklichkeitserfahrung ist eine andere geworden, die Basis unserer Welt-Sicht, das rationale, kausal-analytische Denken, ist in Frage gestellt, die als sakrosankt betrachtete kartesianische Trennung von Geist und Natur, Wissenschaft und Glauben überholt. In einem solchen Moment des geistigen Umbruchs sind Physiker und Biologen, Philosophen und Sozialwissenschaftler gleichermaßen gefordert, an der Grundlegung eines neuen Verständnisses von Mensch und Natur, Geist und Materie mitzuarbeiten. Denn eine Synthese unseres Wissens, die zu einer sinnstiftenden Einheit und Ganzheit unserer Erfahrungen führen soll, muß sich zunächst auf die Erkenntnisse der Einzelwissenschaften stützen, sollte auch andere Denktraditionen, wie etwa die der fernöstlichen Spiritualität und Weltweisheit, miteinbeziehen und die fundamentalen Einsichten der christlich-abendländischen Philosophie und Ethik nicht aus dem Auge verlieren.
Die auf dem Kongreß «Geist und Natur» in Hannover zusammengekommenen Wissenschaftler aller Disziplinen - darunter einige Nobelpreisträger - haben sich dieser Aufgabe gestellt und versucht, aus ihren unterschiedlichen Denkansätzen heraus neue, die Probleme unserer Zeit berücksichtigende Antworten auf die «letzten Fragen» zu finden wie: Was ist Geist? Was ist Natur, Materie? Was ist Bewußtsein? Was ist Zeit? Was ist Wirklichkeit? Aber nicht weniger intensiv wurden auch ganz konkrete Möglichkeiten zum Beispiel einer neuen ökologischen Ethik, einer Neuordnung der Weltwirtschaft und neuer Formen des Dialogs zwischen den Kulturen erwogen. Die Vorträge - oft von den bedeutendsten Vertretern ihres Fachgebiets gehalten - sind sowohl Bestandsaufnahme unserer gegenwärtigen geistigen und gesellschaftlichen Situation wie auch richtungweisend für die Zukunft. Dieser Band enthält die wichtigsten, interessantesten Beiträge zu dieser Diskussion, so daß sich dem Leser damit ein faszinierendes Kaleidoskop des heutigen Wissens und Denkens bietet.

- Abstract
- Seit dem 17. Jahrhundert wird die Diskussion in der Philosophie durch den Begriff der Repräsentation bestimmt. Man vergleicht das Bewußtsein mit einem Spiegel, der die Realität reflektiert. Das Erkennen bemüht sich um die Genauigkeit dieser Reflexion, und die Arbeit des Erkennens besteht im Prüfen, Instandsetzen und Polieren des Spiegels der Natur. In einer eindringlichen und weit ausgreifenden Kritik dieser Metaphorik gibt Richard Rorty eine Übersicht ihres Einflusses auf die Philosophie des 20. Jahrhunderts: eine kritische Selbstreflexion der analytischen Philosophie, die zur Dekonstruktion der bezeichneten Metaphorik führt. In den drei Teilen dieses Buches diskutiert Rorty jeweils die Begriffe des Mentalen, der Erkenntnis und der Philosophie in einer von Dewey, Heidegger und Wittgenstein ausgehenden historischen Perspektive.

- Abstract
- In den Arbeiten dieses Sammelbandes wird die Erkenntnistheorie des 'radikalen Konstruktivismus' anschaulich und folgerichtig entwickelt. In Untersuchungen zu Sprache und Kommunikation, zur kybernetischen Modellierung kognitiver Prozesse, zur Entwicklung des begrifflichen - besonders auch des mathematischen - Denkens von Kindern wird im einzelnen dargestellt, daß wir die Idee 'objektiver' Erkenntnis verwerfen müssen, solange wir streng empirisch und rational erkennen wollen. Alle Erkenntnis, alles Wissen stellt keine 'Entdeckung' einer unabhängig von uns existierenden Realität dar, sondern wird von uns erzeugt, 'konstruiert', und bleibt solange gültig als es uns zu (über-)leben hilft, als es 'viabel' ist. Daraus ergibt sich nicht nur eine dramatisch veränderte Sicht menschlicher Erkenntnis, menschlichen Lernens, Handelns und Zusammenlebens, sondern auch eine anspruchsvolle Ethik der individuellen (Über-)Lebensverantwortung
