- Abstract
- Die Systematik entstand zugleich mit der Wissenschaft Biologie und war die Grundlage der Evolutionstheorie. Nachdem Darwin in der natürlichen Zuchtwahl (Selektion) eine naturwissenschaftliche Brgündung für die Evolution gefunden hatte, wurde die Systematik auch zu einer Geschichtswissenschaft, zur Stammesgeschichte. Einen Höhepunkt erreicht die Systematik in Hennigs Theorie der phylogenetischen Systematik. Man hat versucht, Hennigs Ideen zu formalisieren und die Widersprüche zu minimieren. Das hat zur Einbeziehung mathematisch-statistischer Überlegungen in die Rekonstruktion von Stammbäumen geführt. Die heute mögliche Analyse der genetischen Schrift liefert Grundlagen für eine weitgehend exakte Rekonstruktion der Phylogenese

- Abstract
- Die Rolle der Symmetrie als Werkzeug der Orientierung des Menschen in Raum und Zeit ist in allen Epochen und Zivilisationen aufzuspüren. Sowohl das natur- und geisteswissenschaftliche Denken als auch die Künste und die Prinzipien menschlicher Handelns neigen dazu, sich in Strukturen symmetrischer Natur auszuformen. Zum Beispiel hat die zeitgenössische Physik, mit dem Rüstzeug der modernen Mathematik versehen, den Symmetriebegriff ins Zentrum des Interesses gerückt. Die in den letzten Jahren so erfolgreichen Bemühungen um eine Vereinheitlichung der Grundkräfte der Natur, die damit verbundene tiefe Einsicht in den Kosmos der Elementarteilchen und die daraus hervorgegangenen kosmologischen Erkenntnisse sind beeindruckende Belege für die Wirklichkeit des Symmetrieprinzips. - Abstract
- Seit dem 17. Jahrhundert wird die Diskussion in der Philosophie durch den Begriff der Repräsentation bestimmt. Man vergleicht das Bewußtsein mit einem Spiegel, der die Realität reflektiert. Das Erkennen bemüht sich um die Genauigkeit dieser Reflexion, und die Arbeit des Erkennens besteht im Prüfen, Instandsetzen und Polieren des Spiegels der Natur. In einer eindringlichen und weit ausgreifenden Kritik dieser Metaphorik gibt Richard Rorty eine Übersicht ihres Einflusses auf die Philosophie des 20. Jahrhunderts: eine kritische Selbstreflexion der analytischen Philosophie, die zur Dekonstruktion der bezeichneten Metaphorik führt. In den drei Teilen dieses Buches diskutiert Rorty jeweils die Begriffe des Mentalen, der Erkenntnis und der Philosophie in einer von Dewey, Heidegger und Wittgenstein ausgehenden historischen Perspektive.

- Abstract
- In den Arbeiten dieses Sammelbandes wird die Erkenntnistheorie des 'radikalen Konstruktivismus' anschaulich und folgerichtig entwickelt. In Untersuchungen zu Sprache und Kommunikation, zur kybernetischen Modellierung kognitiver Prozesse, zur Entwicklung des begrifflichen - besonders auch des mathematischen - Denkens von Kindern wird im einzelnen dargestellt, daß wir die Idee 'objektiver' Erkenntnis verwerfen müssen, solange wir streng empirisch und rational erkennen wollen. Alle Erkenntnis, alles Wissen stellt keine 'Entdeckung' einer unabhängig von uns existierenden Realität dar, sondern wird von uns erzeugt, 'konstruiert', und bleibt solange gültig als es uns zu (über-)leben hilft, als es 'viabel' ist. Daraus ergibt sich nicht nur eine dramatisch veränderte Sicht menschlicher Erkenntnis, menschlichen Lernens, Handelns und Zusammenlebens, sondern auch eine anspruchsvolle Ethik der individuellen (Über-)Lebensverantwortung

- Abstract
- Unsere Kultur ist heute durch einen Zwiespalt gekennzeichnet: Einerseits wird die Wirklichkeit im Lichte wissenschaftlicher Erkenntnis betrachtet, welche, wie Max Weber gesagt hat, die Welt "entzauberte". Andererseits haben wir nie aufgehört, mehr oder weniger uneingestanden die Begegnungen mit der Natur und den Menschen, Liebe, Geburt, Tod und andere wichtige Ereignisse auf eine nichtwissenschaftliche Weise zu erfahren, die ihre uns kaum bewußten Wurzeln im mythischen Denken der Vergangenheit hat. Dieser Zwiespalt ist der Gegenstand der seherischen Dichtung Friedrich Hölderlins, mit deren ausführlicher Deutung das Werk beginnt. Gestützt auf die moderne Mythos-Forschung werden in einem weiteren Hauptabschnitt die Grundformen mythischen Denkens und Lebens am Beispiel des griechischen Mythos und der griechischen Tragödiendichtung entwickelt. Wie irrational sind Mythen und Götter? Mit welchem Recht kann auch der Mythos wie die Wissenschaft Wahrheit für sich beanspruchen? Warum hat im Laufe der Geschichte die Wissenschaft den Mythos verdrängt? Eine eingehende Analyse des mythischen Weltverständnisses im Vergleich zur Wissenschaft führt zu überraschenden Antworten auf diese Fragen. Damit wird aber auch das verborgene Fortwirken des Mythos in der heutigen Welt aufgedeckt. Durch ausführliche Interpretationen moderner Malerei (Klee u.a.), Musik (Wagner), Theologie (Bultmann) und Politik (das Grundgesetz der Bundesrepublik) wird die Gegenwärtigkeit mythischer Vorstellungsweisen deutlich. Das Buch schließt mit der Frage, was sich daraus für die Zukunft einer Welt ergibt, die auf Wissenschaft nicht mehr verzichten kann, der aber auch, wie sich zunehmend zeigt, mythisches Welterfahren unentbehrlich ist. Historische Darstellung und philosophische Analyse zugleich, durchleuchtet dieses klar geschriebene und an innerer Spannung reiche Werk Mythos und Wissenschaft, deren Macht und Ohnmacht, und bringt damit zugleich die geistige Situation unserer Zeit auf den Begriff.

- "Rombach präsentiert zur Grundlage seiner Meditationen über das gegenwärtig zukünftige Denken eine in sich erstaunlich konsequente, aber keineswegs gewaltsame Interpretation der gesamten abendländischen Philosophiegeschichte. Freilich treibt er auch Philosophiegeschichte in einem unüblichen Stil. Ebensowenig wie es ihm um eine Bestandsaufnahme der in unserer Zeit publizierten Philosophie geht, zielt er auf die Vermittlung von Kenntnissen über die Philosophie früherer Zeiten ab. Statt dessen fragt er, wie Philosophie als solche und im ganzen nicht nur gegenwärtig ist, sondern je gegenwärtig war. Hinter dieser Frage steht die zentrale These, Philosophie bedeute nicht zu allen Zeiten dasselbe. Damit soll durchaus nicht die banale Tatsache festgestellt werden, daß die Philosophen verschiedener Zeiten zu verschiedenen Ergebnissen gekommen sind. Vielmehr ist Rombachs Meinung die, daß das Wesen der Philosophie epochal geprägt ist, daß sowohl ihr "Standort" wie ihre "Bewegungsform" sich von Epoche zu Epoche wandeln. Diese These ist alles andere als banal, sie ist schockierend und revolutionär."
