- Abstract
- Die Dewey-Dezimalklassifikation (DDC) ist Ende 2003 in der 22. Ausgabe der Standard Edition auf Englisch erschienen und wird genau zwei Jahre später nun auch auf Deutsch veröffentlicht. Nach Übersetzungen ins Französische, Italienische, Russische und Spanische ist unter Beteiligung der drei deutschsprachigen Länder und mit Unterstützung durch die Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft die Voraussetzung dafür geschaffen worden, dass diese international weit verbreitete Klassifikation auch in Deutschland, Österreich und der Schweiz heimisch werden kann. Die hier vorgelegten Übersichten, die die drei obersten Ebenen oder 1 000 Klassen der DDC umfassen, ermöglichen einen Einblick in die Gliederung der gesamten Klassifikation und sind in dieser Form für Bibliotheken und wissenschaftliche Einrichtungen frei verfügbar, während die tieferen Ebenen der DDC durch das Urheberrecht geschützt sind. Die vollständige Ausgabe der DDC 22 Deutsch erscheint 2005 im Verlag K. G. Saur. Mit dem Webservice Melvil bietet Die Deutsche Bibliothek ab Januar 2006 eine deutsche Version von WebDewey an, ergänzt um ein Recherchetool für das Retrieval DDC-erschlossener Daten. Die DDC 22 ist von einer an der Fachhochschule Köln angesiedelten Arbeitsgruppe ins Deutsche übersetzt worden, unterstützt von einemTeam von Fachreferentinnen und Fachreferenten an zahlreichen Bibliotheken des deutschen Sprachraums und fachlich beraten von der Expertengruppe DDC Deutsch. Die organisatorische Leitung des Projekts DDC Deutsch lag bei Der Deutschen Bibliothek als federführendem Mitglied des Konsortiums DDC Deutsch. Ab 2006 wird die Deutsche Nationalbibliografie vollständige DDC-Notationen mitliefern, bereits seit Bibliografiejahrgang 2004 folgen die Sachgruppen der Deutschen Nationalbibliografie einer auf den beiden obersten Ebenen der DDC basierenden Gliederung. Die hier vorgelegte Übersetzung der DDC wurde mit der Herausgeberin der DDC, Joan Mitchell (OCLC, Dublin/Ohio) und ihren Mitherausgebern an der Library of Congress abgestimmt, denen wir für ihre Unterstützung und Beratung herzlich danken. Die kurze Einführung in die Dewey-Dezimalklassifikation, die hier folgt, stellt das gesamte System der DDC vor, das mit seinen Haupt- und Hilfstafeln mehr als 60 000 Klassen umfasst. Die Möglichkeiten zur Erschließung differenzierterThemen gehen daher weit über die hier vorgelegten obersten Klassen der DDC hinaus und berücksichtigen viele moderne Teildisziplinen, die man in den Übersichten vielleicht vermisst. Bei der Verwendung der Übersichten ist zu beachten, dass aus drucktechnischen Gründen in einigen Fällen Klassen nur verkürzt wiedergegeben werden können und nur durch ihre Position innerhalb einer Folge von Klassen genau zu verstehen sind. Daher sollten für die Erschließung auch die vollständigen Klassenbenennungen herangezogen werden, die unter www.ddc-deutsch.de im Netz zur Verfügung stehen.

- Nur wenige Dokumentationsmethoden werden mit dem Namen ihrer Entwickler assoziiert. Ausnahmen sind Melvil Dewey (DDC), S.R. Ranganathan (Colon Classification) - und Norbert Henrichs. Seine Textwortmethode ermöglicht die Indexierung und das Retrieval von Literatur aus Fachgebieten, die keine allseits akzeptierte Fachterminologie vorweisen, also viele Sozial- und Geisteswissenschaften, vorneweg die Philosophie. Für den Einsatz in der elektronischen Philosophie-Dokumentation hat Henrichs in den späten sechziger Jahren die Textwortmethode entworfen. Er ist damit nicht nur einer der Pioniere der Anwendung der elektronischen Datenverarbeitung in der Informationspraxis, sondern auch der Pionier bei der Dokumentation terminologisch nicht starrer Fachsprachen

- Abstract
- An ihrem ersten Standort in Wien wurde die Wanderausstellung vom 3.-28. Februar 2005 in der FachbereichsbibIiothek des Zentrums für Translationswissenschaft gezeigt. Als nächstes wird sie in Graz ausgestellt (April/Mai 2005) und wandert dann weiter in andere österreichische Städte sowie in die Schweiz, nach Südtirol und nach Deutschland. Im Jahr 2005 wird die erste deutschsprachige Ausgabe der DDC, einer international sehr weit verbreiteten und schon seit 130 Jahren im Gebrauch stehenden bibliothekarischen Universalklassifikation fertiggestellt. Melvil Dewey hat das nach ihm benannte Wissensordnungssystem 1873 kreiert. Es wird laufend aktualisiert und alle sieben Jahre von OCLC neu herausgegeben. In Zeiten knappster Ressourcen und einer unüberschaubar gewordenen Informationsdichte sind hohe Fremddaten-Nutzungsraten und eine globale semantische Interoperabilität unabdingbare Ziele der Informationsaufbereitung. Nur durch den Einsatz professioneller und technologisch hoch entwickelter Tools wird es gelingen, stabile Ordnungssysteme zu gewährleisten. Ein Vorteil aller Klassifikationen ist ihre Sprachunabhängigkeit. Über Notationen sind sie in allen Anwenderländern miteinander kompatibel. In etwa 130 Ländern wird DDC als Instrument der inhaltlichen Erschließung in Bibliotheken verwendet. Häufig wird sie zur systematischen Freihandaufstellung eingesetzt. 60 Staaten gliedern ihre nationalen Bücherverzeichnisse danach. Seit kurzem gibt es "die Dewey" auch im Internet: frei verfügbar ist sie bis zur dritten Ebene, also in den obersten 1000 Klassen - dies auch schon in deutscher Sprache - sowie, in vollem Umfang, über Lizenz als "WebDewey" und demnächst als Recherchetool für die deutsche Fassung als "MelvilClass" und "MelvilSearch". Eine Vitrine der Wiener Ausstellung ist Eugen Wüster (siehe Abb. unten) gewidmet: ein wichtiger österreichischer Terminologe und ähnlicher Impulsgeber für Reformen wie Melvil Dewey. Er hat sich mit den Klassifikati onssystemen seiner Zeit intensiv befasst und hatte als Industrieller besonderes Interesse an der Warenklassifikation.

- Am 21. und 22. April 2010 fand die 58. Sitzung der Arbeitsgemeinschaft der Verbundsysteme auf Einladung des Informationsverbund Deutschschweiz (IDS) in Zürich statt. Der folgende Bericht gibt einen Überblick über die gemeinsamen Aktivitäten der deutschsprachigen Verbünde aus Deutschland, Österreich und der Schweiz sowie eine Übersicht der aktuellen Arbeiten und Projekte der Mitglieder der AG Verbund mit Stand April 2010. Bericht u.a. über die Themenbereiche: Projekt Umstieg auf MARC21; GND; Normdateien und ONline-Schnittstelle; Kataloganreicherung; vascoda; Europeana.

- Melvil Die Pläne, zusammen mit OCLC, Melvil zu einem multilingualen DDC-Dienst auszubauen, sind aus Kapazitätsgründen bei OCLC und der DNB zunächst verschoben worden, werden aber weiter verfolgt. Bei Melvil sind weitere Arbeiten ausgeführt worden, um kleinere Bugs zu beseitigen und weitere Features zu implementieren. Anfang 2010 haben OCLC und die DNB einen neuen Lizenzvertrag für die deutschen DDC-Daten abgeschlossen, sodass Teile der deutschen DDC jetzt unter Creative Commons für die nicht-kommerzielle Nutzung freigegeben sind. Die Oberfläche von MelvilSearch wurde daraufhin geändert, sodass jetzt sowohl die Klassenbezeichung, als auch die DDC-Notation auf allen DDC-Ebenen sichtbar sind."

- Ich darf Ihnen nun noch die nächste geplante Kommissionsveranstaltung ankündigen, die voraussichtlich am Donnerstag, 3. Februar in Wien stattfinden wird. Wir freuen uns u.a. auf eine Präsentation des schon sehr weit gediehenen Web-Tools zur DDC Deutsch. Es trägt als Arbeitstitel Dewys Vornamen, MELVIL, übernimmt Daten aus dem o. e. Editionssystem und wird für eine bequeme Nutzung der elektronischen Fassung der 2005 fertig werdenden deutschen Dewey-Ausgabe sorgen. - Abstract
- Since 2005, the Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) has been adopted at the University Library in Frankfurt am Main for the new acquisitions of its special collections in biology. A pragmatic approach has been chosen to cope with the amount of literature, the required retrieval options, and the limited human resources. This concept is named BioDDC. The depth of indexing for the relevant areas is determined at a medium level, between abridged edition and standard DDC; number building is restricted; and, in respect of enhanced retrieval options, the individual components of numbers are kept separate in data models. BioDDC, as a concept, has been developed in consultation with the Deutsche Nationalbibliothek (DNB), ensuring compatibility with standard DDC. Aspects of practical implementation and further perspectives are depicted.
