- Abstract
- Die beiden Leitbegriffe des Titels - Buchtitel zugleich einschlägiger Werke - bezeichnen eine Alternative in der frühneuzeitlichen Speicherung und Vermittlung von Wissen: die möglichst umfassende Thesaurierung überkommener Wissensbestände beziehungsweise ihre kritische Sichtung und Auswahl unter bestimmten Relevanzgesichtspunkten. Der eine Titel stammt von dem Zürcher Polyhistor Konrad Gessner, der andere von dem Jesuiten Antonio Possevino. Voraussetzung beider Unternehmen ist der Buchdruck, der etwa hundert Jahre nach seiner Erfindung in bis dahin unerhörtem Ausmaß Schrifttradition zugänglich gemacht hat, aber durch die schiere Quantität zunehmend Strategien zu ihrer Sicherung und Nutzbarmachung verlangt. Der Bibliotheca universalis wie der Bibliotheca selecta geht es um Orientierung in einem immer unübersichtlicheren Bestand schriftlich tradierten Wissens, der den Wissensfortschritt zu behindern droht. Beide haben also nicht wissenschaftliche Erkenntnis selbst, sondern ihre Vermittlung zum Ziel, und sie wollen kein System des Wißbaren entwerfen, sondern auf der Basis hergebrachter Ordnungen des Wissens den Leser dazu anleiten, sich in jenem Bestand zurechtzufinden. Es ist ein erster Vorzug dieser Münchner Dissertation, daß sie dieses Problem rekonstruiert, so daß das frühneuzeitliche Projekt der Bibliothek nicht mehr am falschen Maßstab der Enzyklopädie als Summe des Wißbaren gemessen wird.

- "Die Bibliographie ist eine [Hilfswissenschaft]. Und zwar steigt deren Wichtigkeit mit dem Steigen der Buchproduktion. Nun gibt es Weniges, was für die kritische Lage der Wissenschaft so durchaus charakteristisch ist wie der Umstand, daß dieser steigenden Wichtigkeit ihre sinkende Beachtung seit Jahren parallel geht. [...] Die Bibliographie ist sicher nicht der geistige Aeil einer Wissenschaft. Jedoch sie spielt in ihrer Physiologie eine zentrale Rolle, ist nicht ihr Nervengeflecht, aber das System ihrer Gefäße. Mit Bibliographie ist die Wissenschaft groß geworden, und eines Aages wird sich zeigen, daß sogar ihre heutige Krisis bibliographischer Art ist. So räsoniert Walter Benjamin bereits 1928 über die steigende Buchproduktion und die Relevanz der Bibliografie für die Forschung. Seine Sätze haben - erstaunlicher Weise - nichts an Aktualität eingebüßt. Auch heute, rund 80 Jahre später, in Zeiten elektronischer Kataloge drängt sich die Frage auf, wie bewältigen wir die Flut der literarischen Veröffentlichungen? Angesichts der dramatischen Veränderungen im Bereich von Druck- und Vervielfältigungsverfahren, der nahezu unendlichen Möglichkeiten, Aexte zu publizieren und der Selbstverständlichkeit, mit der Menschen ihre literarischen Manuskripte inzwischen veröffentlichen, könnten Bibliothekare resignieren. Der Masse der gegenwärtigen Medienproduktion Herr zu werden, ist eine Herausforderung für alle, die sich mit Fragen der Katalogisierung befassen. Der zeitnahe und benutzerfreundliche Nachweis der Medien in Bibliothekskatalogen ist nur noch durch enge Kooperationen und neue technische Möglichkeiten zu meistern. Heute können wir zu jeder Zeit und von nahezu jedem Ort auf die Kataloge der großen wissenschaftlichen und öffentlichen Bibliotheken zugreifen. Der Gang in die Bibliothek kommt inzwischen an zweiter Stelle.

- Abstract
- Die deutschen nationalbibliographische Datenbank Biblio-Data wird in Teil A mit ihren Grundlagen vorgestellt. Biblio-Data basiert auf dem Information-Retrieval-System STAIRS von IBM, das durch Zusatzprogramme der ZMD verbessert wurde. Das Hauptgewicht dieses Beitrags liegt auf der Erörterung des Biblio-Data-Konzepts, nach dem die Daten der Deutschen Bibliographie retrievalgerecht aufbereitet und eingegeben werden. Auf Eigenarten, Probleme und Mängel, die daraus entstehen, dass Biblio-Data auf nationalbibliographischen Daten aufbaut, wird ausführlich eingegangen. Zwei weitere Beiträge zeigen an einigen Beispielen die vielfältigen Suchmöglichkeiten mit Biblio-Data, um zu verdeutlichen, dass damit nicht nur viel schenellere, sondern auch bessere Recherchen ausgeführt werden können. Teil B weist nach, dass Biblio-Data weder die Innhaltsanalyse noch die Zuordnung von schlagwörtern automatisieren kann. Im derzeitigen Einsatzstadium fällt Biblio-Data die Aufgabe zu, die weiterhin knventionall-intellektuell auszuführende Sacherschließung durch retrospektive Recherchen, insbesonderr durch den wesentlich erleichterten Zugriff auf frühere Indexierungsergebnisse, zu unterstützen. Teil C schildert die praktische Arbeit mit Biblio-Data bei bibliographischen Ermittlungen und Literaturzusammenstellunen und kommt zu dem Ergebnis, dass effektive und bibliographische Arbeit aus der sinnvollen Kombination von Datenbank-Retrieval und konventioneller Suche bestehet.

- Abstract
- Hintergrund Seit 1993 bietet die Saarländische Universitäts- und Landesbibliothek (SULB) den Angehörigen der Universität des Saarlandes (UdS) die Möglichkeit, wissenschaftliche Publikationen in einer Online-Jahresbibliographie zu verzeichnen. Schon seit dem Jahr 1968 existierte eine gedruckte Fassung der Jahresbibliographie, die Veröffentlichungen der Angehörigen der Universität des Saarlandes, seit 1973 auch die der anderen Hochschulen des Saarlandes, verzeichnete. Als Printausgabe erschien sie zuletzt im Jahr 2000. Die alte Online-Version beinhaltet die Titel ab dem Berichtsjahr 1993 sowie Nachträge aus früheren Jahren. Mit Beginn des Jahres 2006 wurde bei der SULB als Betreiberin der Jahresbibliographie ein deutlicher Schnitt gemacht: Das bewährte alte, auf hierarchischer HTML-Navigation basierende System, das in den Jahren 1993 bis 2005 zirka 100.000 Titelmeldungen aufnahm, wurde durch ein flexibleres, datenbankgestütztes System ersetzt, das es in Zukunft erleichtern wird, die Jahresbibliographie als Instrument der Evaluierung heranzuziehen. Seit November 2000 bietet die SULB den Wissenschaftlern der UdS auch die Möglichkeit, wissenschaftliche Publikationen als Volltext entgeltfrei auf dem Institutional Repository SciDok Open Access konform zur Verfügung zu stellen. SciDok und auch PsyDok, das Disciplinary Repository der SULB für die Psychologie-Community, werden mit der an der Universität Stuttgart entwickelten Software OPUS betrieben. Seit Januar 2006 wird nun auch die Jahresbibliographie der UdS mit OPUS betrieben.
