    Abstract
This study examines the differences between Scopus and Web of Science in the citation counting, citation ranking, and h-index of 22 top human-computer interaction (HCI) researchers from EQUATOR - a large British Interdisciplinary Research Collaboration project. Results indicate that Scopus provides significantly more coverage of HCI literature than Web of Science, primarily due to coverage of relevant ACM and IEEE peer-reviewed conference proceedings. No significant differences exist between the two databases if citations in journals only are compared. Although broader coverage of the literature does not significantly alter the relative citation ranking of individual researchers, Scopus helps distinguish between the researchers in a more nuanced fashion than Web of Science in both citation counting and h-index. Scopus also generates significantly different maps of citation networks of individual scholars than those generated by Web of Science. The study also presents a comparison of h-index scores based on Google Scholar with those based on the union of Scopus and Web of Science. The study concludes that Scopus can be used as a sole data source for citation-based research and evaluation in HCI, especially when citations in conference proceedings are sought, and that researchers should manually calculate h scores instead of relying on system calculations.

    Abstract
A unique collection of historical material covering the lives and events of an English village between 1400 and 1750 has been made available via a WWW enabled information retrieval system. Since the expected readership of the documents ranges from school children to experienced researchers, providing this information in an easily accessible form has offered many challenges requiring tools to aid searching and browsing. The file structure of the document collection was replaced by an database, enabling query results to be presented on the fly. A Java interface displays each user's context in a form that allows for easy and intuitive relevance feedback

    Abstract
This study explores how and why people participate in collaborative knowledge-building practices in the context of Wikipedia. Based on a survey of 223 Wikipedians, this study examines the relationship between motivations, internal cognitive beliefs, social-relational factors, and knowledge-sharing intentions. Results from structural equation modeling (SEM) analysis reveal that attitudes, knowledge self-efficacy, and a basic norm of generalized reciprocity have significant and direct relationships with knowledge-sharing intentions. Altruism (an intrinsic motivator) is positively related to attitudes toward knowledge sharing, whereas reputation (an extrinsic motivator) is not a significant predictor of attitude. The study also reveals that a social-relational factor, namely, a sense of belonging, is related to knowledge-sharing intentions indirectly through different motivational and social factors such as altruism, subjective norms, knowledge self-efficacy, and generalized reciprocity. Implications for future research and practice are discussed.

    Abstract
A guide to collection development and leisure related Web sites. Highlights more than 2 dozen sites, approximately half of which are devoted to collection development. The same principles used to develop print collections apply to electronic resource collection development. Many review resources are available as a result of efforts by Internet librarians. Good starting points for this category include the Library Web Manager's Reference Center: Current Awareness, and the Librarians' Index to the Internet. Picks of the month for leisure time include KidsHealth.org, Chemical Scorecard, and DigiCams Web Cam Viewer. Also includes a sidebar listing eight books covering topics such as SQL, HTML, DHTML, Web navigation, Windows 98, guides to computers and Palm Pilots, and spamming

    Abstract
Describes a WWW based system which allows users to view, search and post geographically indexed information of the Earth. 2 geographic browsers have been developed: a 2D map browser capable of continuous scroll and zoom of an arbitrarily large sheet and a 3D flight-simulator browser capable of continuous flight around the Earth. On the server side, a geographical and geometrical server has been developed which contains large databases of images, elevations, lines, points and polygons stored in tiles structured into hierarchical pyramids or quadtrees. A metadata server has also been developed which contains URL pointers and geographical coordinates of various WWW documents, geographical information and geometrical models

    Abstract
Seit 3.

    Abstract
Reviews the PowerSearch multifile searching software introduced by ORBIT Search Service as it is used for searching patent databases. Looks at its useful features: deduping, patent family grouping, merge, and virtual file merging. Looks at some possible improvements to both PowerSearch itself and to the ORBIT system to accomodate PowerSearch

    Abstract
Reviews Gale's Ready Reference Shelf CD-ROM which enables library patrons to find their own information. Although this CD is marketed to libraries for patrons to do their own referencing, it is more appropriately used by librarians since it is an index to information sources, not the sources themselves. The CD gives Access to the following resources: Encyclopedia of Associations; Publishers Directory; Gale Directory of Publications and Broadcast Media; Directories in Print; Newsletters in Print; Gale Directory of Databases; Directory of Special Libraries; Research Centres Directory; and the Encyclopedia of American Religions. The software allows a number of sources to be searches simultaneously. Discusses quick searches; extended searches; the command line expert search; and compares the product with Microsoft's Bookshelf which contains a dictionary, almanac, thesaurus, basic encyclopedia and related material

    Abstract
The creation of services linking related information entities is an area that is attracting an ever increasing interest in the ongoing development of the World Wide Web in general, and of research-related information systems in particular. Currently, both practice and theory point at linking services as being a major domain for innovation enabled by digital communication of content. Publishers, subscription agents, researchers and libraries are all looking into ways to create added value by linking related information entities, as such presenting the information within a broader context estimated to be relevant to the users of the information. This is the first of two articles in D-Lib Magazine on this topic. This first part describes the current state-of-the-art and contrasts various approaches to the problem. It identifies static and dynamic linking solutions as well as open and closed linking frameworks. It also includes an extensive bibliography. The second part, SFX, a Generic Linking Solution describes a system that we have developed for linking in a hybrid working environment. The creation of services linking related information entities is an area that is attracting an ever increasing interest in the ongoing development of the World Wide Web in general, and of research-related information systems in particular. Although most writings on electronic scientific communication have touted other benefits, such as the increase in communication speed, the possibility to exchange multimedia content and the absence of limitations on the length of research papers, currently both practice and theory point at linking services as being a major opportunity for improved communication of content. Publishers, subscription agents, researchers and libraries are all looking into ways to create added-value by linking related information entities, as such presenting the information within a broader context estimated to be relevant to the users of the information.

    Abstract
Reviews Gale's Biography and Genealogy Master Index on CD-ROM. It requires an IBM XT, AT, PS/2 or compatible with MS-SOS 3.1 or higher, MS-DOS CD-ROM 2.0, 640 KB RAM and 1 MB disc space. Discusses searching; on screen help and extended searching. Although the CD-ROM has more than 8.8 million citations it does not have adequate speed and convenience because the index has been too literally translated in the software design
