Abstract

»Unmittelbarer Anlaß dieses Buches, in dem Doi seine Theorie allgemeinverständlich vorlegt und das in Japan zu einem Bestseller geworden ist, war die 68er Studentenrevolte - näherhin, und für den Westen überraschend, das spürbare Verständnis, das die japanischen Studenten, was ihre Motivation anging, bei einem großen Teil der Erwachsenen gefunden haben. Die Revolte wird von Doi als ein Ausdruck der frustrierten Bedürfnisse nach der spezifischen Form von Abhängigkeit interpretiert, die japanisch mit amae umschrieben wird. Die Jugendlichen fühlten sich als Opfer der nurmehr auf ihre eigenen Vorteile bedachten Erwachsenen. Bezeichnend für ihr eigenes Opfer-Bewußtsein war die Identifikation mit den andern, noch bedauernswerteren Opfern der Gesellschaft - bis zu den Ausgebeuteten der Dritten Welt und den zukünftigen Opfern der die Umwelt zerstörenden ökonomischen Entwicklung.« (Elmar Holenstein )
