Abstract

Poppers Philosophie ist für Bibliothekare bislang in zweierlei Hinsicht interessant gewesen. Zum einen wollte man seine Wissenschaftstheorie auf die bibliothekarische Forschung übertragen, um diese endlich wahrhaft wissenschaftlich zu machen. Zum andern schien seine Drei-Welten-Lehre die Möglichkeit zu bieten, Bibliotheken als Elemente von Welt 3 zu lokalisiern und dadurch ihr 'Wesen' zu bestimmen. Beide Versuche sind äußerst problematisch: Poppers Wissenschaftstheorie in ihrer Anwendung auf die Bibliotheksforschung verkürzt diese zu einem empirischen Geschäft, das die Anpassung der Bibliotheken ans Informationszeitalter gewährleisten soll; Poppers Ontologie dagegen terminiert in einem kruden Platonismus, der Bibliotheken einer geistigen Welt 3 zuschlägt, die nichts mit den Millionen von Büchern anzufangen weiß. Die Dekonstruktion dieser Versuche zeigt Bibliotheken demgegenüber als Einrichtungen, die der Lektüre einen Raum einräumen und zu diesem zweck Bücher bereitstellen, deren Materialität nicht von ihrer Zeichenhaftigkeit getrennt werden kann
