- Internet, WWW, Online, Surfen - eine Flut dieser und ähnlicher Begriffe hat sich in den letzten Jahren über die Medien verbreitet. Kryptische Wortkürzel wir http:// dürfen scheinbar in keinem Werbespot mehr fehlen. Das Wort von der Internet-Euphorie macht die Runde. Doch was hat es damit eigentlich auf sich? Was sind die Hintergründe dieses Spektakels? Ist das WWW wirklich der Vorreiter der globalen Kommunikation, als der es vielfach gepriesen wird? Der folgende Artikel versucht, eine Diskussionsgrundlage für die genannten Fragen bereitzustellen. - Abstract
- Das Projekt einer Künstlichen Intelligenz verliert seine suggestive Kraft. Doch die visionäre Lücke, die damit entsteht, bleibt nicht unbesetzt. Eine neue Utopie zeichnet sich ab. Sie handelt nicht vom Computer als einem Werkzeug des Denkens, vielmehr vom Computer als einem Medium der Kommunikation. Es geht um eine Verbindung von Datenverarbeitung und Telekommunikation, welche die Einseitigkeit der Fernkommunikation zu überwinden erlaubt. Das Versprechen ist dabei, daß die wechselseitige Bezugnahme und Anschließbarkeit, die wir kennen aus den mündlichen Gesprächen zwischen anwesenden Personen, nun auch unter den Bedingungen einer Abwesenheit der Kommunizierenden technisch realisierbar werde. - Abstract
- Der Computer ist eine Technologie der symbolischen Repräsentation und der Kommunikation, kurz - eine Technologie des Schreiens. In den achtziger Jahren machte der Personal Computer (PC) diese Technologie einer großen Zahl von Autoren wie Lesern in Europa, Nordamerika und Japan verfügbar. Heute eröffnet das Internet neue Formen der Publikation: es befreit das elektronische Schreiben aus dem individuellen Computer und verbreitet es über ein die gesamte entwickelte Welt umspannendes Netzwerk aus Maschinen. Das World Wide Web im Internet ist ein methodisches Verfahren, welches das elektronische Schreiben schließlich in die Lage versetzt, sich von Schreibweisen für gedruckte Publikationen deutlich zu unterscheiden. Eine neue Ökonomie des Schreibens, ein neues Zusammenspiel von technischen Geräten und den Weisen, mit ihnen umzugehen, beginnt sich auszubreiten.
