- Abstract
- Das lang geplante Großprojekt eines Verzeichnisses der im deutschen Sprachraum erschienenen Drucke des 17. Jahrhunderts ist nach Abschluss der Vorbereitungsphase im Dezember 1995 in diesem Jahr in die Hauptphase eingetreten. Die Vorgeschichte, die inhaltlich-konzeptuellen Eckpfeiler sowie die Entwicklung und Realisierung dieses nationalen Unternehmens werden im folgenden in einem notwendigerweise komprimierten Überblick rekapituliert. Dabei erweist sich - sicherlich paradigmatisch für ein bibliographisches Projekt der Informationsgesellschaft -, daß die Darstellung der technischen Grundlagen ein ebenso großes Gewicht erhält wie die Fragen von Regelwerk und Erschließungstiefe

- Abstract
- Am Beispiel der Zentralbibliothek der Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH wird der Paradigmenwechsel bibliographischer Alltagsroutine zwischen 1978 und 1998 vorgestellt. Vor dem Hintergrund der veränderten Informationstechnologie der letzten 20 Jahre werden einerseits die eingesetzten Nachweisinstrumente und deren Evolution beschrieben, andererseits die Veränderungen der konkreten Arbeitsprozesse beim Bibliographieren illustriert. Dabei wird ein Spektrum abgedeckt, das von gedruckten Bibliographien und Referateblättern über Mikrofiche und Magnetbänder, Online- und CD-ROM-Datenbanken bis zum "WeltWideWeb" reicht. Wir zeigen, daß der bibliographische Arbeitsprozeß neu definiert werden muß, in seiner Grundfunktion aber nicht obsolet geworden ist

- Die Literaturversorgung in Deutschland krankt seit langem weniger am Nachweis der erschienenen Bücher bzw. Zeitschriften- oder Zeitungsaufsätze. Die verschiedenen Einrichtungen der Fachinformation haben ein inzwischen thematisch nahezu lückeloses Netz von Datenbanken aufgebaut, seien sie online oder auf optischen Speichermedien verfügbar. Beschwerlich kann hingegen nach wie vor der Weg zum tatsächlich benötigten Wissen sein, denn dies befindet sich oft schriftlich fixiert in Bibliotheken. Diese bieten heute noch selten elektronische Bestandsnachweise oder gar die Möglichkeit der Online-Bestellung (online-ordering) an. Helfen kann in vielen Fällen das DBI in Berlin

- Abstract
- The special collection scheme (SSG) was established in 1956 and developed parallel to the North Rhine-Westphalian union Catalogue. In 1960 the first printed alphabetical current catalogue of SSG literature was produced, listing 3.500 titles but not including all participating libraries. The range of the catalogue increased over the next 10 years; it is considered successful since statistics showed increased loans of listed material. Despite larger numbers of colleges and universities in North-Rhine Westphalia, SSG and its catalogues should survive: SSG allows small libraries to participyte aid. SSG has contributed to library development in North-Rhine Westphalia

- Bereits im Jahr 1980 brachte das Informationszentrum Sozialwissenschaften in Bonn (im folgenden IZ genannt) seine erste soziologische Bibliographie heraus, die damals noch auf fremdem Ausgangsmaterial basierte. Während der Aufbau der Literaturdatenbank SOLIS (Sozialwissenschaftliches Literaturinformationssystem) in den folgenden Jahren im Vordergrund der Tätigkeit des IZ stand, geriet der Gedanke, dieser ersten Bibliographie weitere folgen zu lassen, nie ganz in Vergessenheit. Nachdem nunmehr fast 20 Jahre vergangen sind, ist das Projekt in die Realisierungsphase gerückt und der Prototyp für eine Reihe weiterer soziologischer Bibliographien, die zeitlich an die obengenannte anschließen, bereits entwickelt.

- Abstract
- Strategische Studien bei technologisch führenden US-Bibliotheken haben gezeigt, daß die zwischenbetriebliche Integration zwischen Buchhandel und Bibliotheken ein Automatisierungsvorhaben der 90er Jahre sein könnte, das in der Lage wäre, hohe betrieblich Nutzeffekte und Srategiebeiträge zu den kritischen Erfolgsfaktoren der Bibliotheken zu liefern. Dazu wird hier exemplarisch eine strategische Entscheidungsunterstützung zur Automation der Wertschöpfungskette, der zwischenbetrieblichen Integration zwischen Bibliotheken und den Vorlieferanten und damit der zwangsläufige Einstieg in die ISO/OSI geprägte 'offene Kommunikation' zwischen heterogenen Systemen vorgestellt

- Abstract
- Es wird eine Methode vorgestellt, wie sich Ordnungssysteme für die Suche in textbasierten Datenbeständen verwenden lassen. "Ordnungssystem" wird hier als Oberbegriff für beliebige geordnete Begriffssammlungen verwendet. Dies sind beispielsweise Thesauri, Klassifikationen und formale Systematiken. Weil Thesauri dabei die leistungsfähigsten Ordnungssysteme sind, finden sie eine besondere Berücksichtigung. Der Beitrag ist streng praxisbezogenen und auf die Nutzerschnittstelle konzentriert. Die Basis für die Nutzerschnittstelle bilden Ordnungssysteme, die über eine WWW-Schnittstelle angeboten werden. Je nach Fachgebiet kann der Nutzer ein spezielles Ordnungssystem für die Suche auswählen. Im Unterschied zu klassischen Verfahren werden die Ordnungssysteme nicht zur ausschließlichen Suche in Deskriptorenfeldern, sondern für die Suche in einem Basic Index verwendet. In der Anwendung auf den Basic Index sind die Ordnungssysteme quasi "entkoppelt" von der ursprünglichen Datenbank und den Deskriptorenfeldern, für die das Ordnungssystem entwickelt wurde. Die Inhalte einer Datenbank spielen bei der Wahl der Ordnungssysteme zunächst keine Rolle. Sie machen sich erst bei der Suche in der Anzahl der Treffer bemerkbar: so findet ein rechtswissenschaftlicher Thesaurus natürlicherweise in einer Medizin-Datenbank weniger relevante Dokumente als in einer Rechts-Datenbank, weil das im Rechts-Thesaurus abgebildete Begriffsgut eher in einer Rechts-Datenbank zu finden ist. Das Verfahren ist modular aufgebaut und sieht in der Konzeption nachgeordnete semantische Retrievalverfahren vor, die zu einer Verbesserung von Retrievaleffektivität und -effizienz führen werden. So werden aus einer Ergebnismenge, die ausschließlich durch exakten Zeichenkettenabgleich gefunden wurde, in einem nachfolgenden Schritt durch eine semantische Analyse diejenigen Dokumente herausgefiltert, die für die Suchfrage relevant sind. Die WWW-Nutzerschnittstelle und die Verwendung bereits bestehender Ordnungssysteme führen zu einer Minimierung des Arbeitsaufwands auf Nutzerseite. Die Kosten für eine Suche lassen sich sowohl auf der Input-Seite verringern, indem eine aufwendige "manuelle" Indexierung entfällt, als auch auf der Output-Seite, indem den Nutzern leicht bedienbare Suchoptionen zur Verfügung gestellt werden
