- Abstract
- Die Digitale Bibliothek hat viele Gesichter und viele Funktionen, Kein des Begriffs ist die Aufbereitung, Zugänglichkeit und Verarbeitung von digitalen - aber auch nichtdigitalen - Quellen. Das Management von elektronischen Informationsressourcen birgt neue Strukturen, neue Paradigmen, neue Arbeitsweisen und neue Informationsvermittlungsmethoden. Noch einer Übersicht über die Begriffsbestimmung "Digitale Bibliothek" werden die Forschungsprogramme und Förderansätze hinsichtlich digitaler Bibliotheksprojekte in den USA, Europa, Asien und Ozeanien dargestellt. Einzelne Aspekte der digitalen Bibliothek werden dann näher erläutert wie die Architektur der digitalen Bibliothek, Metadaten, Dokumentenerstellung, Interoperability, Gateways - Clearinghouses etc., Paradigmenverschiebung, elektronische Zeitschriften, Informationsvermittlung, Abrechungsmodalitäten, Archivierung etc. Weiterhin wird überlegt, was die künftigen Implikationen der Informationseuphorie bzw des "dato smog" sind, wie der Wissenschaftlerarbeitsplatz aussieht und weiche Rolle Bibliothek und Bibliothekare in der Informationsversorgung künftig haben

- Abstract
- Die DFG-SSG-Bibliotheken haben bisher sowohl eine Informations- als auch eine Beschaffungsaufgabe, die darin besteht, die Fachgebiete mit einschlägiger inländischer und vor allem ausländischer Literatur auszustatten. Nun stehen im Internet und anderen netzen Informationsquellen zur Verfügung, die nur in ähnlicher Weise wie das SSG-Programm zu bewältigen sind. Anhand eines 'Clearinghouse'-Konzeptes kann der strukturierte Zugang zu fachbezogenen Iformationen in vernetzten Informationsquellen und vor allem im Internet geschaffen werden. Einige Aspekte des 'Clearinghouse'-Konzeptes sowie die Erfahrungen, Inhalte verteilter Informationsquellen mittels neuer Suchinstrumente zu bündeln, werden dargestellt. Die Verwendung von Gophern, Indices, Pointers, Subject Trees, WAIS-recherchierbaren Datenbanken und anderen Werkzeugen bei der Aufgabe, einen relativ präzisen Überblick über die relevanten Quellen für einen bestimmten Interessenschwerpunkt herzustellen, wird erläutert

- Abstract
- Das Internet ist heute für viele PC-Benutzer eine interessante Möglichkeit zur Informationsgewinnung. Hierzu haben sowohl die Öffnung für private und kommerzielle Anwender als auch die Entwicklung multimedialer Informationssysteme beigetragen. Zur Nutzung der meisten Dienste kann ferner kostenlose Software für DOS und Windows eingesetzt werden. Hans-Lothar Hase beschreibt zunächst einführend, wie der Enduser auf die Datenautobahn gelangt. Schwerpunkt der Darstellung ist aber die Beschreibung von Programmen zur Nutzung der Internet-Dienste. - Abstract
- Immer häufiger werden das System 'Internet', die dort genutzten Programmfunktionen und Werkzeuge sowie die damit zugänglichen Informationsangebote in Fachdiskussionen und -veröffentlichungen vorgestellt. Als einführende Hilfsmittel und Ratgeber zur Information über dieses Netzwerk sowie zur eigentlichen Nutzung von Internet sind (neben in elektronischer Form vorliegenden Publikationen) mittlerweile mehrere einführende Printveröffentlichungen in englischer Sprache auf dem Markt. Drei dieser Publikationen werden im vorliegenden Artikel ausführlicher vorgestellt und bewertet. Zum besseren Verständnis des sachlichen Zusammenhangs ist der Rezension ein knapp gefaßter Überblick über die unter dem Begriff 'Internet' zusammengefaßten Funktionen und Informationsangebote vorangestellt.
