    Abstract
    Auch wenn Suchmaschinen wie Google ihre Ergebnis-Qualität in den letzten Jahren stark gesteigert haben, sind Webkataloge weiterhin eine wertvolle RechercheAlternativefür relevante Internet-Ressourcen. Während die meisten Webkataloge aufgrund des Fachwissens ihrerBearbeiter nur Websites zu einem Thema erschließen, existiert mit dem "Open Directory Project (ODP)" ein weltweiter Webkatalog, in dem bereits über 4,5 Millionen Websites erfasst sind. In der öffentlichen Wahrnehmung spielen Webkataloge kaum eine Rolle, was u.a. an der extremen Heterogenität (sowohl der Katalog-Bearbeiter als auch der Katalog-Qualität) liegt wie auch an der Notwendigkeit, zuerst den geeigneten Katalog selbst recherchieren zu müssen. Mit dem Wissen, wo und wie gute Kataloge zu finden sind, und unter welchen Maßgaben sie entstehen, können viele InternetRecherchen effektiver durchgeführt werden. Neben der Vorstellung exemplarischer Webkataloge werden praxisorientierte Strategien für die Website-Auswahl und -Beschreibung vorgestellt.

    Abstract
    Das Word Wide Web, oder breiter gefasst das Internet ist heute für viele Unternehmen und deren Mitarbeitern zu einer der wichtigsten und am meisten genutzten Informationsquellen geworden, um ihre täglichen Arbeitsaufgaben zu erfüllen. Dem gegenüber stehen Untersuchungen, diezeigen, dass in den wenigsten Fällen im Web das gefunden wird, was gesucht wird. Ursachen liegen u.a. in dervorwiegenden Benutzung von konsumentenorientierten Suchmaschinen wie Google. Die Folgen dieser mangelhaften Suchergebnisse haben aber direkte betriebswirtschaftliche Auswirkungen im Bezug auf Arbeitszeit Wettbewerbsfähigkeit und Kosten für die Unternehmen. Eine mögliche Lösung aus diesem Informationschaos bieten spezialisierte Web- und Themenkataloge. Die Anforderungen an diese Verzeichnisse unterscheiden sich aber teilweise erheblich von den bekannten Webkatalogen wie Web.de oder Allesklar. Neben diesen alten, neuen Suchwerkzeugen wird für eine wirklich effiziente Nutzung des WWW auch bei der Qualifizierung und Weiterbildung der Mitarbeiter ein neuer Weg eingeschlagen werden müssen.

Während in Deutschland vor einigen Jahren noch Google als nahezu einzige Suchmaschine beim Zugriff auf Informationen im Web genutzt wurde, nehmen heute die u.a. in Social Media veröffentlichten Meinungen und damit die Vorauswahl sowie Bewertung von Informationen einzelner Experten und Meinungsführer an Bedeutung zu. Aber wie können themenspezifische Informationen nun effizient für konkrete Fragestellungen identifiziert und bedarfsgerecht aufbereitet und visualisiert werden? Diese Studie gibt einen Überblick über semantische Standards und Formate, die Prozesse der semantischen Suche, Methoden und Techniken semantischer Suchsysteme, Komponenten zur Entwicklung semantischer Suchmaschinen sowie den Aufbau bestehender Anwendungen. Die Studie erläutert den prinzipiellen Aufbau semantischer Suchsysteme und stellt Methoden der semantischen Suche vor. Zudem werden Softwarewerkzeuge vorgestellt, mithilfe derer einzelne Funktionalitäten von semantischen Suchmaschinen realisiert werden können. Abschließend erfolgt die Betrachtung bestehender semantischer Suchmaschinen zur Veranschaulichung der Unterschiede der Systeme im Aufbau sowie in der Funktionalität.

    Abstract
    Die deutschen Suchmaschinen, Abacho, Acoon, Fireball und Lycos sowie die Web-Kataloge Web.de und Yahoo! werden einem Qualitätstest nach relativem Recall, Precision und Availability unterzogen. Die Methoden der Retrievaltests werden vorgestellt. Im Durchschnitt werden bei einem Cut-Off-Wert von 25 ein Recall von rund 22%, eine Precision von knapp 19% und eine Verfügbarkeit von 24% erreicht
