    Abstract
Compares the classification of entomological literature in the Dewey Decimal Classification and Library of Congress Classification systems. Argues that while LCC treats the subject in more depth especially with reference to entomological taxonomy, the arrangement in DDC proves to be more logical and gives greater consideration to natural evolution. DDC allows for a greater number of possibilities when considering the geographic distribution of insects and other aspects of their study

    Abstract
Catalogues date back to the libraries of Babylon and Alexandria, and in the Middle Ages groups of colleges and monasteries created joint catalogues. The dream of universal bibliographic control based on a centralised joint catalogue advanced when the US Library of Congress began selling bibliographic records in 1901. This led to MARC in 1969, and increasing emphasis on standardisation resulted in the first ISBN in 1974

    Abstract
The Digital Object Identifier (DOI) has been developed by the academic technical and medical publishing sectors to enable the management of access rights to information published electronically. The DOI system has evolved from the physical documentary unit identifiers developed in the 1970, physical and document logical unit identifiers developed in the 1980s and recently modified to meet the needs of electronic distribution. This experience is integrated into the standardization, currently in progress on the Internet network, of the identification of resources and their localization. The DOI system is potentially the object of an international standard as the ISBN and the ISSN have been

    Abstract
For a published item be searched it has to conform to certain standards such as the recognition of the author and his rights, the registration of copyright and editorial format allowing a rational use of the book and access within a classification scheme. Considers whether this should be applied to video film publishing. Relates the early stages of cinema and exclusive distribution in picture houses and examines the consequences of video publishing for individual viewers. Documentary consultation of films with authors' rights, voluntary registration and copyright deposit requirement is starting to come about. However, video publishing has not yet produced an editorial format to enable reasoned consultation of the published products

    Abstract
Discusses the characteristics and functions of the textual database management program DB/TextWorks 2.0 of Inmagic Inc. Operating on a PC microcomputer in a Windows environment (stand alone or network), it combines the advantages of full text retrieval systems and the flexibility of databases. Presents an evaluation of the program and examines its use in libraries with the DB/TextWorks Library guide kit which proposes database models conceived for various functions; acquisitions, cataloging, loans, OPAC, serials management, and interlibrary loan

    Abstract
Describes problems experienced by the library of the multidisciplinary centre of the University of Paris 12 at Creteil which led to the decisiion to embark upon a dynamic policy of public service provision which emphasized free access to its collections and to information in general by means of the computerization of its catalogues and the provision of CD-ROMs. Describes user studies conducted which provide evidence to suggest that rather than making do with less staff, deployment of their services in a different way has been necessary

    Abstract
Describes the raisons d'etre of the catalogue of the Bibliothèque de France which include comprehensiveness, innovation and enrichment, focusing on the intention to enhance its entries with extracts from primary documents as part of a plan to improve its service to users. A sample of 1000 entries have been tested but will only justify evaluation after the official opening of the Bibliothèque de France and observation of subsequent user practices

    Abstract
The introduction of multimedia into the library raises new questions concerning who the users are and how best to match services to their needs. An inquiry into the users of CD-ROMs in the Nancy mediatheque offers some answers to the questions. The choice of CD-ROMs and the way in which this service is used difers according to whether the public is active or not, and according to the kind of training followed. Far from being mutually antagonistic, reading of books and consultation of CD-ROMs seem to reinfornce each other

    Abstract
The national library service SBN originated 12 years ago and now comprises 450 libraries in a joint computerised network, with some 2.500.000 entries in the joint catalogue. The Ministry of Culture, universities, local administration, and research and cultural instituions are all equal but independent partners, though as a publicly funded initiative the network is hamoered by bureaucracy. Current developments include retroconversion and the creation of specialist databases of manuscripts, grey literature and sound materials. At present the cataloguing function is successful, but interlibrary loan remains unsatisfactory
