- Abstract
- Nach der Veröffentlichung einer deutschen Übersetzung der Dewey Decimal Classification 22 im Oktober 2005 und ihrer Nutzung zur Inhaltserschließung in der Deutschen Nationalbibliographie seit Januar 2006 stellt sich aus Sicht der deutschen kunsthistorischen Spezialbibliotheken die Frage nach einer möglichen Verwendung der DDC und ihrer generellen Eignung zur Inhalterschließung kunsthistorischer Publikationen. Diese Frage wird vor dem Hintergrund der bestehenden bibliothekarischen Strukturen für die Kunstgeschichte sowie mit Blick auf die inhaltlichen Besonderheiten, die Forschungsmethodik und die publizistischen Traditionen dieses Faches erörtert.

- Abstract
- Am 29. und 30. Oktober 2009 fand in der Königlichen Bibliothek in Den Haag das zweite internationale UDC-Seminar zum Thema "Classification at a Crossroad" statt. Organisiert wurde diese Konferenz - wie auch die erste Konferenz dieser Art im Jahr 2007 - vom UDC-Konsortium (UDCC). Im Mittelpunkt der diesjährigen Veranstaltung stand die Erschließung des World Wide Web unter besserer Nutzung von Klassifikationen (im Besonderen natürlich der UDC), einschließlich benutzerfreundlicher Repräsentationen von Informationen und Wissen. Standards, neue Technologien und Dienste, semantische Suche und der multilinguale Zugriff spielten ebenfalls eine Rolle. 135 Teilnehmer aus 35 Ländern waren dazu nach Den Haag gekommen. Das Programm umfasste mit 22 Vorträgen aus 14 verschiedenen Ländern eine breite Palette, wobei Großbritannien mit fünf Beiträgen am stärksten vertreten war. Die Tagesschwerpunkte wurden an beiden Konferenztagen durch die Eröffnungsvorträge gesetzt, die dann in insgesamt sechs thematischen Sitzungen weiter vertieft wurden.

- Abstract
- Zentrale Erwerbung von wissenschaftlichen Informationsressourcen im Netz der virtuellen Hybridbibliothek der Max-Planck-Gesellschaft »Excellent Information Services for Excellent Research« ist das Motto der Anfang 2007 gegründeten Max Planck Digital Library (MPDL). Diese ambitionierte Leitlinie würdigt die Relevanz eines modernen wissenschaftlichen Informationsmanagements für eine exzellente Spitzenforschung. Mit Gründung der MPDL wurde in der Max-Planck-Gesellschaft (MPG) ein entscheidender Schritt zur zentralen Unterstützung eines bisher weitgehend dezentralen Informationsversorgungsnetzes gegangen. Die Entscheidung zu einer Kombination aus zentraler und dezentraler Informationsversorgung trägt den Veränderungen Rechnung, die sich durch die Möglichkeiten der digitalen Welt ergeben haben. Intention der Neugründung ist jedoch nicht, ein unter der Prämisse der Institutsautonomie etabliertes, wohl durchdachtes Literatur- und Informationsversorgungssystem sukzessive durch eine zentrale Einheit abzulösen, sondern gemäß der Maxime der Subsidiarität Stärken von dezentralen und von zentralen Einheiten zu einem effizienten Gesamtsystem zu ergänzen. Der vorliegende Artikel skizziert das Netz der Informationsversorgung in der MPG mit dem Schwerpunkt auf der Versorgung mit elektronischen Medien des institutsübergreifenden Bedarfs. Dieser Schwerpunkt kennzeichnet eines der Hauptarbeitsfelder der MPDL, deren weitere Services und Arbeitsfelder kontextgebunden und ausgewählt vorgestellt werden sollen?

- Abstract
- Mit 84 Millionen bibliografischen Einträgen und mehr als einer Milliarde Besitznachweisen aus ca. 10.000 Institutionen ist der WorldCat das größte Nachweisinstrument für Bibliotheksbestände weltweit. Der Sucheinstieg über WorldCat.org (www.worldcat.org) bietet eine einfache Stichwortsuche in der gesamten Datenbank von WorldCat und nicht nur in den Teilmengen, die über Open WorldCat (http://www.oclc.org/worldcat/open/default.htm) frei genutzt werden können. Inzwischen sind rund 7,9 Millionen Einträge der Deutschen Nationalbibliothek aus den Jahren 1913 bis 2007 im WorldCat des OCLC (Online Computer Library Center) nachgewiesen Monatlich kommen allein aus der DNB mehr als 15.000 Titeldatensätze dazu. Neben der DNB ist derzeit als weitere deutsche Bibliothek die Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek Göttingen im WorldCat vertreten. Die Bayerische Staatsbibliothek sowie die Verbünde GBV und BSZ haben Vereinbarungen für die Datenlieferung getroffen. Seit März 2007 sind auch Nachweise für Aufsätze in die WorldCat.org-Suche einbezogen. Es handelt sich um die vier Datenbanken GPO, ArticleFirst, Medline und ERIC. WorldCat.org bietet damit mehr Titel als der WorldCat selbst, da diese Kurznachweise im WorldCat nicht recherchierbar sind. Bei den zwei großen deutschen Bibliotheken, die bisher im WorldCat präsent sind, SUB Göttingen und DNB, führen bei Besitzmeldung zur entsprechenden Zeitschrift die Bibliotheks-Links im WorldCat.org direkt in deren Kataloge oder auch in die ZDB.
