    Abstract
    Nach mehr als 4 Jahren Erfahrung in der kooperativen Erschließung von Internetquellen öffnet sich der Verbund Academic LinkShare für neue Partner aus den Geistes-, Regional- und Sozialwissenschaften. Academic LinkShare ist ein Netzwerk wissenschaftlicher Bibliotheken. Gemeinsam bauen sie einen interdisziplinären Datenpool fachlich relevanter Internetquellen auf, aus dem sich alle Partner gleichberechtigt bedienen können. Nach mehr als vier Jahren gemeinsamer Entwicklungs- und Erschließungsarbeit lässt sich der Erfolg des Modells heute quantifizieren. Seit der Aufnahme des ersten Datensatzes Mitte 2001 sind weit mehr als 20.000 Quellen aus dem politik-, rechts-, wirtschafts- und sozialwissenschaftlichen Umfeld dazugekommen. Sie werden präsentiert in den Fachinformationsführern (qualifizierten Linksammlungen) von ViFaPol (Politikwissenschaft - http://www.vifapol.de), EconBiz (Wirtschaftswissenschaften - http://www.econbiz.de) und ViFa Recht (Rechtswissenschaft - http://www.vifa-recht.de). Jüngstes Mitglied des Verbundes sind die Europäischen Dokumentationszentren mit ihrem Rechercheportal ArchiDok (http://archidok.uni-mannheim.de). Die Einsparpotentiale liegen vor allem im hohen Überschneidungsgrad der Quellen, der - ohne Volltexte - bei ca. 30% liegt. Die Schaffung einer gemeinsamen technischen Infrastruktur allein begründet noch nicht den Erfolg des Modells. Viel schwieriger als die Entwicklung eines Erfassungssystems ist der Aufbau eines funktionierenden Netzwerks wissenschaftlicher Einrichtungen und Bibliotheken, das sich nachhaltig für den Aufbau des Datenpools verantwortlich zeichnet. Vor dem Hintergrund überaus knapper Zeitressourcen hat Academic LinkShare technische und organisatorische Lösungen entwickelt, die den Voraussetzungen der Kooperationspartner gerecht werden. Dieses Win-Win-Prinzip zahlt sich aus. Neben den fünf Verbundpartnern von Academic LinkShare beteiligen sich heute mehr als 40 wissenschaftliche Einrichtungen an der Erschließung der Quellen. Das Interesse an dem Modell des Metadata Sharing ist beachtlich - der Kreis der Mitwirkenden wächst kontinuierlich an. Academic LinkShare bietet Interessenten aus dem sozial-, geistes- und regionalwissenschaftlichen Umfeld die Möglichkeit, dem Verbund beizutreten, und unterstützt sie dabei auf der Basis der vorhandenen technischen Lösungen beim Aufbau und Betrieb einer eigenen Virtuellen Fachbibliothek.     Abstract
    Im August 2006 feierte die Redaktion des Fachportals Pädagogik, der Virtuellen Fachbibliothek der Erziehungswissenschaft, das einjährige Bestehen ihres Angebots. Das Fachportal ist der erziehungswissenschaftliche Partner im Rahmen des disziplinübergreifenden Wissenschaftsportals vascoda und wird vom Informationszentrum (IZ) Bildung des Deutschen Instituts für Internationale Pädagogische Forschung (DIPF) in Frankfurt am Main getragen. Aufbau und Entwicklung des Fachportals werden von der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft nach aktuellem Stand bis 2008 gefördert. Seit der Freischaltung im Jahr 2005 konnten seine Informationsangebote erheblich ausgeweitet und in den Zugriffsmöglichkeiten sichtlich optimiert werden. Im Fokus der Darstellung stehen in erster Linie die Angebote an sich, weniger die oft kleinschrittige Funktionsweise der einzelnen Funktionalitäten.

    Abstract
    The paper gives a short overview of the history of use of UDC in Internet subject gateways (SGs) with an English interface, from 1993 to 2006. There were in total, nine quality controlled SGs that were functional for shorter or longer periods of time. Their typology and functionality is described. Quality SGs have evolved and the role of classification has changed accordingly from supporting subject organization on the interface and automatic categorization of resources, towards supporting a semantic linking, control and vocabulary mapping between different indexing systems in subject hubs and federated SGs. In this period, many SGs ceased to exist and little information remains available regarding their status. SGs currently using UDC, for some part of their resource organization, do not use a UDC subject hierarchy at the interface and its role in resource indexing has become more difficult to observe. Since 2000, UDC has become more prevalent in East European SGs, portals and hubs, which are outside the scope of this research. This paper is an attempt to provide a record on this particular application of UDC and to offer some consideration of the changes in requirements when it comes to the use of library classification in resource discovery.

    "Die Nationalbibliotheken von Dänemark, Estland und Lettland haben mit Jahresbeginn den Teilnehmerkreis von »The European Library« (www.europeanlibrary.com) erweitert. Mit der Weiterentwicklung der Portalsoftware ist das Angebot schneller und zuverlässiger geworden. Die unter dem Namen "The Europcan Library," (TEL) im Spätherbst vergangenen Jahres gestartete Europäische Digitale Bibliothek wächst weiter. Bis Ende 2006 werden die Onlinekataloge und mehr als 200 Sammlungen von 2,3 europäischen Nationalbibliotheken über dieses Internetportal recherchierbar sein. Das Angebot wird sich damit innerhalb eines Jahres nahezu verdoppeln. The European library ermöglicht integrierte Suchanfragen über institutionelle und geografische Grenzen hinweg. Das in den umfangreichen Datenbeständen der Bibliotheken repräntierte kuIturelle Erbe Europas wird damit vom Schreibtisch aus zugänglich. Urheberrechtsfreie digitale Dokumente können direkt abgerufen werden. Teilnehmende Bibliotheken passen ihre Kataloge an die Metadaten- und Suchstandards der Europäischen Digitalen Bibliothek an und ermöglichen damit die katalog- und sammlurngsübergreifende Recherche. Für The European Library wurde eine neue Webtechnologie verwendet, mit der Portalfunktionen einfach und preiswert realisiert werden können. Die Software "Portal-in-the-Browser" (www.dlib.org/dlib/february04/vanveen/02vanveen.html) steht Interessenten frei zur Verfügung. Die Entwickler erhoffen eine Anwendung in weiteren kulturellen Bereichen und damit die mögliche Verknüpfung der verschiedenen Sektoren.
