    Abstract
    The paper presents the new verbal indexing language (National Library of Poland Descriptors) used in Polish national bibliography. History and organization of Polish national bibliography as well as the context of other changes in the National Library of Poland are described. The paper provides information about National Library of Poland Descriptors main principles, and describes the steps that have been undertaken by subject specialists to improve the subject description of the national bibliography records, especially of its online version. The result of these changes is compared with recommendations for subject access in national bibliographies proposed by IFLA.

    Abstract
    The goal of this research is investigating the situation of existing bibliographic records in the online public access catalog of the National Library of Iran in order to use Resource Description and Access (RDA). A sample of 111 bibliographic records was selected for this purpose. These records were analyzed according to the RDA codes. The results reveal that more than 88% of the records show a rather good conformity with RDA, but 47% of the remaining problematic records show direct inconformity with RDA. Based on an in-depth analysis of the fields, most of the discrepancies deal with the assumed rules based on which the data is entered. The results of this study indicate that there is a good level of conformity between contents of current records and RDA, but as for the rest of the records there are some major tasks to be done.

    Abstract
    Mit den Literaturnachweisen des OCLC PICA Partners - des Gemeinsamen Bibliotheksverbunds (GBV) - wird WorldCat um einen weiteren großen deutschen Datenbestand erweitert. Die entsprechende Rahmenvereinbarung zwischen der OCLC PICA GmbH und dem GBV wurde am anlässlich des OCLC PICA Partner Update Meetings in Oberhaching unterzeichnet. Nach Zustimmung durch die betroffenen Bibliotheken werden ca. 22 Mio. Titelsätze an WorldCat geliefert. Dazu gehören die Bestände der Stiftung Preußischer Kulturbesitz einschließlich Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin und aller Hochschulbibliotheken in den sieben zum GBV gehörenden Bundesländern. OCLC wird diese Daten in Absprache mit den Bibliotheken kontrolliert an Internetsuchmaschinen wie Google und Yahoo weitergeben. Damit wird neben den Titel- und Besitznachweisen der Niedersächsischen Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek Göttingen und der Bayerischen Staatsbibliothek eine weitere große deutsche Titelsammlung via Internet weltweit recherchierbar sein.

    Abstract
    Contribution to an issue devoted to serials and reference services. Aims to acquaint reference librarians with the information provided by the United States Newspaper Program and its state projects, and to describe the methods by which this information can be assessed. USNP participants are working toward the cataloguing and detailed location and holdings description of virtually every newspaper in the US. This information is resulting in the creation of a comprehensive newspaper reference tool. The USNP information is available on-line via bibliographic utilities; it is also available in an off-line product, the United States Newspaper Program National Union List. To use this information, librarians need to possess some knowledge of the scope and complexities of the bibliographic description and union listing of newspapers.

    Hintergrund Seit 1993 bietet die Saarländische Universitäts- und Landesbibliothek (SULB) den Angehörigen der Universität des Saarlandes (UdS) die Möglichkeit, wissenschaftliche Publikationen in einer Online-Jahresbibliographie zu verzeichnen. Schon seit dem Jahr 1968 existierte eine gedruckte Fassung der Jahresbibliographie, die Veröffentlichungen der Angehörigen der Universität des Saarlandes, seit 1973 auch die der anderen Hochschulen des Saarlandes, verzeichnete. Als Printausgabe erschien sie zuletzt im Jahr 2000. Die alte Online-Version beinhaltet die Titel ab dem Berichtsjahr 1993 sowie Nachträge aus früheren Jahren. Mit Beginn des Jahres 2006 wurde bei der SULB als Betreiberin der Jahresbibliographie ein deutlicher Schnitt gemacht: Das bewährte alte, auf hierarchischer HTML-Navigation basierende System, das in den Jahren 1993 bis 2005 zirka 100.000 Titelmeldungen aufnahm, wurde durch ein flexibleres, datenbankgestütztes System ersetzt, das es in Zukunft erleichtern wird, die Jahresbibliographie als Instrument der Evaluierung heranzuziehen. Seit November 2000 bietet die SULB den Wissenschaftlern der UdS auch die Möglichkeit, wissenschaftliche Publikationen als Volltext entgeltfrei auf dem Institutional Repository SciDok Open Access konform zur Verfügung zu stellen. SciDok und auch PsyDok, das Disciplinary Repository der SULB für die Psychologie-Community, werden mit der an der Universität Stuttgart entwickelten Software OPUS betrieben. Seit Januar 2006 wird nun auch die Jahresbibliographie der UdS mit OPUS betrieben.
