- Abstract
- Die in diesem Band enthaltenen Beiträge sind Ausarbeitungen von Vorträgen, die auf einem Kolloquium in Bochum anläßlich der Verleihung der Ehrendoktorwürde an Roman Jakobson von Philosophen, Linguisten, Psychologen und Neurophysiologen gehalten wurde. Das Thema des Kolloquiums hatte Ramon Jakobson selbst vorgeschlagen. Obwohl er, ebenso wie einige andere Forscher, sich schon seit Jahrzehnten mit dem Problembereich beschäftigt hat, sind die neuesten Forschungsergebnisse so interessant und ermutigend, daß das Interesse an der weiteren interdisziplinären Erforschung rapide wächst. Zentrale Fragen, die auch im vorliegenden Band diskutiert werden, sind: Wird die Sprachfähigkeit im Menschen vor allem in einer Gehirnhälfte (der dominanten Hemisphäre) organisiert? Gestatten die bisherigen Untersuchungen an physiologisch bedingten Sprachstörungen (Aphasie) eine genauere Lokalisation sprachlicher Teilaufgaben in verschiedenen Bereichen der dominanten Gehirnhälfte? Lassen sich, aufgrund linguistischer oder handlungstheoretischer Prinzipien zur Analyse des Sprachverhaltens, Hypothesen für die Prozesse und Lokalisationen im Gehirn ableiten oder bisherige Hypothesen kritisieren? In welchem Grade ist die Sprachfähigkeit an das menschliche Gehirn gebunden? Die Beiträge sind an ein weites Publikum gerichtet. Die Einleitung des Herausgebers erläutert einige für das Verständnis erforderliche Grundkenntnisse und Problemstellungen.

- Abstract
- A summary of brain theory is given so far as it is contained within the framework of Localization Theory. Difficulties of this "conventional theory" are traced back to a specific deficiency: there is no way to express relations between active cells (as for instance their representing parts of the same object). A new theory is proposed to cure this deficiency. It introduces a new kind of dynamical control, termed synaptic modulation, according to which synapses switch between a conducting and a non- conducting state. The dynamics of this variable is controlled on a fast time scale by correlations in the temporal fine structure of cellular signals. Furthermore, conventional synaptic plasticity is replaced by a refined version. Synaptic modulation and plasticity form the basis for short-term and long-term memory, respectively. Signal correlations, shaped by the variable network, express structure and relationships within objects. In particular, the figure-ground problem may be solved in this way. Synaptic modulation introduces exibility into cerebral networks which is necessary to solve the invariance problem. Since momentarily useless connections are deactivated, interference between di erent memory traces can be reduced, and memory capacity increased, in comparison with conventional associative memory

- Abstract
- Ein Regelwerk für den Schlagwortkatalog sollte Bibliotheken die Führung von Schlagwortkatalogen bzw. die verbale Indexierung von Dokumenten mit Schlagwörtern ermöglichen. Die Schlagwortkataloge treten in unterschiedlicher materieller Erscheinungsform auf, z. B. als konventionelle Karten- oder Mikrofiche-Kataloge (hierfür muß ein Regelwerk dann auch Sortierregeln bereitstellen), inzwischen aber auch als integraler Bestandteil von interaktiv abzufragenden Online-Katalogen. Zunehmend treten dabei Gesichtspunkte einer kooperativen Sachkatalogisierung bei möglichster Inanspruchnahme zentraler Dienstleistungen in das Blickfeld bundesdeutscher Öffentlicher und wissenschaftlicher Bibliotheken. Kann ein Regelwerk, können die "Regeln für den Schlagwortkatalog: RSWK" diesen Anforderungen gerecht werden? Wir wollen dieser Frage im Rahmen dieser Rezension ein wenig nachgehen.

- Abstract
- Aus der Benutzung der Universitätsbibliothek Ulm wurde eine Halbwertszeit-Funktion in der naturwissenschaftlichen Literatur von t1/2=5 Jahren bestimmt. Eine interessante Abweichung von dieser Halbwertszeit-Funktion ist bei der Bestellung der neuesten Zeitschriften zu beobachten. Der Grund hierfür liegt vermutlich darin, daß Wissenschaftler das Vierfache an neuester Literatur lesen müssen, um wissenschaftliche Trends zu überschauen. Eine weitere Abweichung ist in der ältesten Literatur festzustellen, bei den sog. 'citation classics'. Übereinstimmung zeigt sich im Zitier- und Kopierverhalten bei Zeitschriftenliteratur, die älter als 2 Jahre ist. Etwa 27% der an die UB Ulm gerichteten Literaturanforderungen betreffen Zeitschriftenaufsätze mit einem Alter von über 10 Jahren, da diese Bestände für die Benutzer nur schwer zugänglich sind. Dies zeigt die große Bedeutung einer Freihand-Bibliothek

- Abstract
- Examines a simpler cataloguing format offered by PCs, without disturbing compatibility, using A-Z cataloguing rules for data input, category codes for tagging and computer-supported data input through windows. Gives numerous examples of catalogue entries, basing techniques on certain category schemes set out by Klaus Haller and Hans Popst. Examines catalogue entries in respect of categories of data bases for authors and corporate names, titles, single volume works, serial issues of collected works, and limited editions of works in several volumes.
