    Abstract
Interdisciplinary associations laed to the emergence of hybrid disciplines. Interdisciplinary association may be of two types - multi-disciplinary associations and interdisciplinary borrowing. Multi-disciplinary association may be juxtaposition studies or convergence of view points. Interdisciplinary borrowing involves borrowing of techniques and tools, or borrowing of data, or use of principles and theories. The emergence of hybrid discipline pose problems in classification. Some of these problems are highlighted by taking the newly emerging discipline of cycle research as a case study. Cycle research is a general theoretical study of cycle phenomena. It can be deemed to be formed by either of the two modes of formation namely distillation and clustering. In Colon Classification, ed.7, cycle research may be accomodated in the schedule of personality isolates in the basic subject BTM time series analysis

    Abstract
Argues for the inclusion of a project on study of subjects in courses in library and information science. Suggests contents of the project and provides proforma for the collection and organisation of information about subjects. Lists types of information sources / reference books for study about subjects and suggests proforma for collecting information about various types of reference books, about primary periodicals, on on-going research, on institutional sources of information, and about experts, consultants etc

    Abstract
As part of the study of human information search strategy, the concept of the search tactic, or move made to futher a search, is introduced. 29 search tactics are named, defined, and discussed in 4 categories: monitoring, file structure, search formulation, and term. Implications of the search tactics for research in search strategy are considered. The search tactics are inteded to be practically useful in information searching. This approach to searching is designed to be general, yet nontrivial; it is applicable to both bibliographic and reference searches and in both manual and on-line systems

    Abstract
Different types of eveidence used in answering the question: what is good indexing? are considered. The evidence is presented in the context of the method on inquiry which produced mysticism, rationalism or empiricism. The method of mysticism is illustrated with reference to Cutter and the problem of specific entry. Ranganathan's approach to the controversy over alphabetical vs. classified arrangement is used to illustrate the method of rationalism. Cleverdon's work is taken as an example of the method of empiricism. In providing evidence for good indexing, the method of empiricism is found wanting. It is suggested that the method be improved by fundamental research into problems of sampling and definition, and that it be supplementend by other methods of inquiry

    Abstract
An information search tactic is a move made to further a search. In this article, 17 "idea tactics" are presented: tactics to help generate new ideas or solutions to problems in information searching. The focus of these tactics is psychological; they are intended to help improve the information specialist's thinking and creative processes in searching. The tactics are applicable to all kinds of situations - both bibliographical and reference searches, and in both manual and on-line systems. Research leads for the study of idea tactics are suggested, and experimental design problems associated with the testing of all sorts of search tactics are discussed
