    Abstract
Discusses the history of the development of thesauri and considers the feasibility of using them as a means for the description of knowledge systems. Contemporary computing technology makes it possible to compile highly effective thesauri, which can be used as a tool for the development of complex databases and knowledge systems

    Abstract
Examines the formal relationships between global and local indices of the effectiveness of the processing of information in automated information systems, including, for example, the rationale use of information resources, and reliability. Shows that the global effectiveness does not exceed the local effectiveness of the elements of the system in question

    Abstract
The information requirements for library users can only be met if individual information systems are compatible, i.e. based on the use of a single information language. Points out that natural language is the best instrument for integration of information systems. Presents a model of the strucutre of natural language, extended by metaknowledge elements which makes it possible to analyse and represent text without the need for syntax analysis

    Abstract
Explains the principles of hypertext systems and defines these as information management systems characterised by their ability to provide links between individual text segments. Describes and compares the characteristics of 3 systems: HYPERTIES, GUIDE and INTERES. Descusses hardware rewuirements: all 3 will run on IBM compatible personal computers, with preferably 1 MB RAM, either under MS DOS (HYPERTIES and INTERES) or Windows (GUIDE). Concludes that GUIDE, with complex retrieval functions, seems to be the most sophisticated hypertext tool of those evaluated

    Abstract
The Slovak Scientific and Technical Information Centre is the official distributor of the CDS/ISIS library automation package in Slovakia. Discusses the use of the system which has at present over 500 registered users, although not all of them have the latest version and, consequently, cannot take advantage of all its features. Presents a brief description of the package and draws attention to some of the additional modules which, for example, make it possible to convert the database format of the data into the ISO 2709 format or UNIMARC format

    Abstract
There are 2 types of hypertext systems: the first incorporates hypertext links without identifying their essence while the second uses text fragments as tools for knowledge systematisation. Examines the feasibility of using the second type as an instrument for the setting up of knowledge databases

    Abstract
Examines the relationship between conceptual, cognitive and linguistic models and argues that the principles of these models are identical. Presents a mathematical approach to designing a single model of a subject area incorporating terminology and knowledge models. The presented method can be used as a tool for numerous tasks, including the design of intellectual systems based on the principle of cognitive structures

    Abstract
Examines the shortcomings of traditional indexing and classification methods. Artificial intelligence systems may provide the answer to the problem of improving indexing and classification effectiveness. presents a conceptual modelling method which can be used as a basis for conceptual indexing, i.e. a model of knowledge structures suitable for automatic text analysis and, consequently, for compilation of association thesauri for text databases
