- Abstract
- Nachdem das Forschungsnetz Internet weltweit eine enorme Zuwachsrate aufweist und stets neue Angebote im elektronischen Informationsraum auftauchen, ist aus Benutzersicht ein wachsendes bedürfnis nach Hilfsmitteln zur Orientierung im Netz anzumelden. Neben Navigationshilfen wie Gopher und World Wide Web sind dür einen gezielten Einstieg Themenbäume (subject trees), fachspezifische Server und spezielle Diskussionslisten (Mailing lists, Newsgroups) von große Bedeutung. Es werden Beispiele für den Landwirtschaftsbereich vorgestellt. Um das deutschsprachige Angebot effizient nutzen zu können, schlägt der Autor vor, einen Wegweiser-Dienst für agrawissenschaftliche Information, AGUILDE, zu schaffen

Diese bereitet aus juristischer Sicht enorme Probleme. - Abstract
- 'Internet in Öffentlichen Bibliotheken' lautete der Titel eines Materialienbandes, den das Deutsche Bibliotheksinstitut bereits im letzen Jahr herausgegeben hatte - zu Grundlagen in den Bereichen Markt, Recht, Technik und zur Praxis mit Berichten von Konzepten und Erfahrungen. Daß dieser Band auch in seiner Themenfülle und -vielfalt nicht alles Aspekte dieses komplexen neuen Mediums würde aufgreifen können, und daß auch mit der rasanten Weiterentwicklung des Mediums das Thema damit noch keinesfalls 'abgehakt' sein würde, kristallisierte sich schon zu dem Zeitpunkt seiner Entstehung heraus. Eine Fortsetzung, Vertiefung und Erweiterung also war dringend geboten und wird hier vorgelegt - freilich ohne die Illusion, damit alle Aspekte gar erschöpfend behandeln zu können, wohl aber in der Hoffnung, einige Arbeits- und Orientierungshilfen in den wichtigsten Bereichen zu geben

- Abstract
- Die aufkommende Informationsgesellschaft stellt neue Anforderungen an Öffentliche Bibliotheken. Das Internet als modernes Informations- und Kommunikationsmittel spielt dabei eine nicht unerhebliche Rolle. Kommunale Bibliotheken in Deutschland haben im Umgang mit dem Internet noch sehr wenig Erfahrung. Diese Arbeit soll einen ersten Überblick darüber schaffen, inwieweit dieses Medium Öffentlichen Bibliotheken neue Möglichkeiten hinsichtlich bibliotheksinterner Arbeitsabläufe und bibliothekseigener Informationsangebote bereitstellt. Zudem werden Funktion und Aufgabe der Öffentlichen Bibliothek innerhalb der Informationsgesellschaft anhand der Bereitstellung des Internet für den Bibliotheksbenutzer thematisiert. Letztlich werden technsiche Voraussetzungen für einen Internetanschluß dargestellt und die Problematik des Internetbetriebs in Öffentlichen Bibliotheken erörtert

- Einführung in den Umgang mit dem interaktiven Datennetz sowie dessen Hilfsprogramme (z.B. FTP, Telnet, Usenet). Von der Menge der Internet-Einführungen hebt sich dieser auf deutsche Verhältnisse abgestimmte Text angenehm ab. Er ist kurz, gut gedruckt und übersichtlich strukturiert und erklärt dem Einsteiger auch die Möglichkeiten, kostengünstig ins Internet zu gelangen. Technisches wird nur gestreift, wo es für die Nutzung der vielfältigen Möglichkeiten des Netzes unumgänglich ist. Natürlich werden die Hilfsmittel und -Programme wie FTP, Telnet und Usenet, Archie, Gopher und WWW eingehend beschrieben.
