- Abstract
- Wikipedia und Bibliotheken haben das gleiche Ziel: die einfache und schnelle Wissensvermittlung. Mit der Vernetzung der unterschiedlichen Informationsangebote im Internet wird Wissen umfassend zugänglich gemacht. Ein Beispiel für die Vernetzung zwischen Wikipedia und Bibliothekskatalogen ist die Kooperation mit der Personennamendatei, der Normdatei für Personennamen. Der Artikel möchte beleuchten, wie diese Kooperation funktioniert und welchen Nutzen sie hat.

- Anknüpfend an ihren Aufsatz "Bibliothek 2.0 - Die Zukunft der Bibliothek?" (2006) geben Patrick Danowski und Lambert Heller, verantwortlich für das Schwerpunktthema der vorliegenden Ausgabe, einen Überblick über den erreichten Diskussionsstand über verschiedene Teilaspekte der Bibliothek 2.0 unter besonderer Berücksichtigung der deutschen Fachöffentlichkeit. Einige charakteristische Fragen und Probleme der Weiterentwicklung, Öffnung und Vernetzung bibliothekarischer Dienste und Informationen werden angesprochen.

Alle ihre Artikel werden in einem Wiki-System verwaltet, das auf Servern der Wikimedia-Foundation gehostet wird. Sie wird allein mit Hilfe von Spendengelder und der Arbeit von mehreren Tausend Freiwilligen weltweit betrieben. Ursprünglich im Januar 2001 als englischsprachiges Projekt gegründet existieren inzwischen Ableger in mehr als 80 Sprachen. Die deutschsprachige Wikipedia ist nach der englischen die umfangreichste.
