- Abstract
- Virtuelle Fachbibliotheken spielen in Deutschland bei der fachlichen Informationsversorgung eine wichtige Rolle. Auf Grund ihres Anspruchs, als hybride Bibliotheken sowohl Print-Medien als auch elektronische Publikationsformen nachzuweisen bzw einen Zugang zu diesen anzubieten, stellen sie für Fachwissenschaftler eine wichtige Anlaufstelle ihrer Literaturrecherchen dar. Virtuelle Fachbibliotheken für über 20 Wissenschaftsdisziplinen bekunden dies mittlerweile. Sie stehen für die Übertragung des deutschen Sondersammelgebietssystems (SSG-System) ins Internet-Zeitalter. Für die Bibliotheks- und Informationswissenschaft gibt es in Deutschland gegenwärtig noch keine Virtuelle Fachbibliothek. Die Fragestellung dieses Beitrags ist, ob eine Virtuelle Fachbibliothek für diesen Fachbereich notwendig ist und wenn ja, wie sie idealtypisch aufgebaut sein könnte. Dabei werden auch potenzielle Träger und Mitwirkende am Aufbau berücksichtigt.

- Abstract
- Der folgende Aufsatz beschreibt aus technischer Sicht den Weg von der Konzeption und Vision einer modernen suchmaschinenbasierten Suchumgebung zu ihrer technologischen Umsetzung. Er nimmt den Faden, der im ersten Teil (ZfBB 51 (2004), 5/6) beschrieben wurde, unter technischen Gesichtspunkten wieder auf. Dabei werden neben den konzeptionellen Ausgangsüberlegungen schwerpunktmäßig die technologischen Aspekte beleuchtet.

- Abstract
- Eines der Hauptprobleme beim Nachweis und Retrieval von Internetressourcen besteht in der Schwierigkeit, sie eindeutig zu identifizieren, zu authentifizieren und nachaltig zu adressieren - kurz gesagt: im Fehlen von Persistent Identifiern. Die URLs, die Standortangaben im Internet, die als Zugriffs-Signaturen dienen, stellen sich häufig als unzuverlässige Adressen heraus. Entfällt eine URL, ist die Ressource ganz wie ein verstelltes Buch nicht mehr auffindbar und damit für die Nutzung verloren. Selbst wenn das Dokument unter anderer Anschrift weiter existieren sollte, ohne Kenntnis der neuen Adresse ist ein Zugriff unmöglich. So sind andere, persistente Identifier notwendig, um schnell, zuverlässig, sicher und dauerhaft den weltweiten Zugriff auf die Ressourcen zu regeln

- Abstract
- Werden Google, Yahoo und Microsoft die einzigen Zugänge zum weltweiten Wissen im Jahre 2010 darstellen? Der Autor setzt sich für eine konzertierte Aktion der Bibliotheken ein, um mittels »State-of-the-Art«- Suchmaschinentechnologie verlässliche, qualitativ hochwertige Suchdienste für wissenschaftliche Informationen in Forschung und Lehre aufzubauen. Die Notwendigkeit ergibt sich aus dem explosionsartigen Anwachsen wissenschaftlich relevanter Dokumente, die nicht selten ausschließlich über das Internet zugänglich sind und über derzeit verfügbare Informationsportale von Bibliotheken nicht oder nur sehr unzulänglich recherchiert werden können. Der Artikel beschreibt mögliche Wege der Kooperationen von Bibliotheken und anderen Informationsanbietern im nationalen und internationalen Kontext beim Aufbau eines offenen, verteilten wissenschaftlichen Internet-Indexes, der modular angelegt in beliebigen lokalen Umgebungen genutzt werden kann. Für die nutzerfreundliche Gestaltung des neuen Suchservices wird auf die Notwendigkeit der Berücksichtigung von etablierten, allgemeinen Internet-Suchdiensten eingegangen, die innerhalb kurzer Zeit eine hohe Popularität und Nutzerakzeptanz gewonnen haben.

- Die sich rasant verändernde Informationslandschaft erfordert ein Umdenken in den verschiedenen Informations- und Dokumentationsstellen; es gibt kaum noch einen Arbeitsbereich, der nicht stetigen Umwälzungen unterworfen ist. Besonders in der Auskunftstätigkeit sehen wir uns mit neuen Herausforderungen konfrontiert, um der zunehmenden Disintermediation zu begegnen. Unseren Kunden stehen übers Internet vielfältige Wege zur Verfügung, um sich die Informationen selbst zu beschaffen, was jedoch meist dazu führt, dass sie sich in den Weiten des World Wide Web verlieren. Die Kompetenz und sachkundige Navigationshilfe der Informations- und Dokumentationsspezialisten wird demnach je länger, umso mehr gefordert sein; es verändert sich lediglich die Art und Weise des Auskunftgebens: ,Librarians need to more formally incorporate this awesome information power into a new model of service provision so that they may position themselves to meet the needs of reference services in the next century". Vor diesem Hintergrund drängt sich nicht nur ein anderes Vorgehen beim Kundeninterview auf, sondern es stellt sich ebenfalls die Frage, wie man die Informations- und Kommunikationstechnologien (l+K-Technologien) sinnvoll einsetzen kann, sowohl für den konventionellen als auch für den virtuellen Auskunftsdienst. Das zunehmende Aufkommen virtueller Universitäten verlangt nach neuen innovativen Ideen, um den potenziellen Studenten angemessene Dienstleistungen zu bieten, die es ihnen erlauben, das ganze Spektrum der l+K-Technologien voll auszuschöpfen. Virtuelle Auskunftsdienste bzw. "virtual reference desks" sind immer häufiger beliebte Themen in der Fachpresse und werden in Zukunft als entscheidender Wettbewerbsfaktor gelten. Wie kann man die vorhandenen Informationen so bündeln und kanalisieren, dass unsere Kunden so rasch und so effizient als möglich zu den von ihnen nachgefragten Inhalten kommen? Ein kurzer Überblick über den heutigen Entwicklungsstand der "virtual reference desks" zeigt auf, dass vor allem die "Internet Public Library" (IPL) auf diesem Gebiet Pionierarbeit geleistet hat, dass ihre Angebote jedoch nicht über E-Mail-Auskunft hinausgehen. Anhand eines dreistufigen Auskunftsmodells werden fortschrittliche Möglichkeiten aufgezeigt, wie man Fernauskunft unter Einbezug aller Internetdienste (E-Mail, Newsgroups, Chat, WWW) abwickeln und gestalten könnte, wobei vor allem technische Ansätze berücksichtigt werden, das ganze Umfeld einer virtuellen Universität jedoch nicht außer Acht gelassen wird.

- Vascoda (www.vascoda.de), das Internetportal für wissenschaftliche Information, bietet einen interdisziplinären Zugriff auf hochwertige Ressourcen unterschiedlicher Publikationsformen und eine komfortable Navigation zu zahlreichen hochwertigen Fachportalen. Die Einzelportale und vascoda werden mit der finanziellen Unterstützung des Bundesministeriums für Bildung und Forschung (BMBF) und der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) aufgebaut. Organisatorisch handelt es sich um einen einmaligen Zusammenschluss unterschiedlicher Informationsanbieter (Bibliotheken und Informationszentren). Dieser Artikel gibt eine Übersicht über den Hintergrund, das derzeitige Angebot und die Perspektiven von vascoda. Dabei werden die Serviceleistungen des Portals und der einzelnen Fachportale sowie Entwicklungen von Diensten beschrieben. Daneben versucht dieser Beitrag auch eine Definition der mit vascoda verbundenen Vision zu liefern.

- Abstract
- Mit der Deutschen Internetbibliothek soll einer breiten Öffentlichkeit ein allgemeines Themenportal im Netz zur Verfügung gestellt werden. Ähnlich wie das jüngst eröffnete Portal Vascoda als Dienstleistung der wissenschaftlichen Bibliotheken und Informationseinrichtungen wird auch die Deutsche Internetbibliothek in Kooperation erstellt und gepflegt: Rund siebzig deutsche und österreichische Öffentliche Bibliotheken suchen nach relevanten Internetquellen, bewerten und rubrizieren einschlägige Angebote im Web - ein erstes Resümee nach fast einjährigem Betrieb des »Wissensportals der Bibliotheken«.

- Abstract
- Am Beispiel des Online-Redaktionssystems DAPHNE (Distributed Authoring, and Publishing of Hypertext in a Network Environment) lässt sich zeigen, dass ein Online-Redaktionssystem aufgrund seiner Funktionalitäten durchaus auch zum Aufbau und zur Pflege von Digitalen Bibliotheken geeignet ist. Das Redaktionssystem ermöglicht es, den Datenbestand nach unterschiedlichen Strukturen hierarchisch zu gliedern, Verwaltungsfunktion ebenso wie die Betreuung des Layout zu zentralisieren bzw. zu delegieren und den Bearbeitern und Nutzern sehr differenzierte Änderungs- und Zugriffsrechte einzuräumen. Dieser Funktionsumfang kann sich mit dem Anforderungsprofil an eine Plattform zur Erstellung und Pflege Digitaler Bibliotheken decken

- Abstract
- Die Webometrie ist ein Teilbereich der Informationswissenschaft der zur Zeit auf die Analyse von Linkstrukturen konzentriert ist. Er ist stark von der Zitationsanalyse geprägt, wie der empirische Schwerpunkt auf der Wissenschaftsanalyse zeigt. In diesem Beitrag diskutieren wir die Nutzung linkbasierter Maße in einem breiten informetrischen Kontext und bewerten verschiedene Verfahren, auch im Hinblick auf ihr generelles Potentialfür die Sozialwissenschaften. Dabei wird auch ein allgemeiner Rahmenfür Linkanalysen mit den erforderlichen Arbeitsschritten vorgestellt. Abschließend werden vielversprechende zukünftige Anwendungsfelder der Webometrie benannt, unter besonderer Berücksichtigung der Analyse von Blogs.

- Abstract
- Ein mittelständischer Verlag kann sehr schwer vor allem retrospektiv auf XML umstellen, um seine Internetanwendungen zukunftsträchtig zu organisieren. Der Einsatz von Microsoft Word und der systematische Einsatz von Stylesheets war ein pragmatischer Ansatz, sieben Zeitschriften in nur drei Monaten via XML ins Internetportal zu bringen. Daneben musste ein Konzept für eine Adressdatenbank und Termindatenbank gefunden werden, deren Daten direkt online publiziert werden sollten. Zudem musste die Integration der Abonnentendatendaten zum Zugriffsschutz eingebaut werden, aber direkte Eingabe online von neuen Daten neben der offiziellen Datenbank gewährleistet sein. Webdesign und Webhosting rundeten das Full Service Konzept ab, eine vollständige Automatisierung aller Updateprozesse wurde angestrebt, um wirtschaftlich arbeiten zu können. Der Vortrag erklärt das Gesamtkonzept, vertieft die XML-Aufbereitung und konkretisiert die automatisierten Prozesse des Updates und die schnelle Durchführung des Projektes, ohne dass der Verlag über spezifisches Internet Know-how verfügen muss
