- "Seit dem 8. Mai 2007 ist b2i, das zentrale Wissenschaftsportal für die Bibliotheks-, Buch- und Informationswissenschaften, online (www.b2i.de). Sein Name "b2i" fasst die Anfangsbuchstaben der beteiligten drei Wissenschaftsdisziplinen zusammen. Das Fachportal wird von der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) gefördert und kooperativ entwickelt von: - der Niedersächsischen Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek Göttingen (SUB) als zuständiger Sondersammelgebietsbibliothek (Projektleitung), - dem Informationszentrum für Informationswissenschaft und -praxis (IZ) der Fachhochschule Potsdam, - dem Fachbereich Informationswissenschaften der Fachhochschule Potsdam, - dem Kompetenznetzwerkfür Bibliotheken (KNB) beim Deutschen Bibliotheksverband Berlin - und der Buchwissenschaft der Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg. Nach dem Vorbild der virtuellen Fachbibliotheken bündelt b2i Fachinformation, Datenbanken und Bibliothekskataloge der Bibliotheks-, Buch- und Informationswissenschaften und macht sie über eine gemeinsame Oberfläche bequem und komfortabel zugänglich. Eine integrierte Metasuchfunktion ermöglicht die gleichzeitige Recherche in einer Vielzahl von Nachweisinstrumenten für gedruckte und elektronische Materialien, qualitätskontrollierten Internetressourcen und Fakteninformationen. Zum Service gehören außerdem Bestellmöglichkeiten für Monographien-, Zeitschriften- und Aufsatzliteratur sowie für elektronische Materialien, die als Datei oder Druckausgabe angefordert werden können. Damit wird b2i für Interessierte aus Wissenschaft, Studium und Praxis zu einem interdisziplinären "One-stop-shop" der Fachinformation. Auch Volltexte gehören zum Angebot von b2i. Eingebunden sind bereits jetzt der Potsdamer Volltextserver INFODATA eDepot und der GOEDOC-Dokumentenserver der SUB Göttingen. Thematisch erschlossene Nachweise auf Artikelebene bieten die informationswissenschaftliche Datenbank INFODATA und der spezifische Fachausschnitt "Informations-, Buch- und Bibliothekswesen" aus der Aufsatzdatenbank Online Contents (OLC-SSG). Für die Buch- und Bibliothekswissenschaft verbessert sich die Nachweissituation erheblich durch die Einbindung der nunmehr erstmals in elektronischer Form verfügbaren "Bibliographie zur Buch- und Bibliotheksgeschichte" (BBB) und des von Bernhard Fabian herausgegebenen "Handbuch der historischen Buchbestände", das in Form eines interaktiven Wikis kostenfrei zugänglich gemacht wird. Der "b2i Guide" enthält eine Sammlung von intellektuell erschlossenen, fachrelevanten Internetquellen, in die auch die Fachausschnitte aus der Elektronischen Zeitschriftenbibliothek (EZB) und des Datenbank-Informationssystems (DBIS) eingebunden sind. Beiträge zu aktuellen Fachthemen aus der Bibliotheksszene ergänzt das Bibliotheksportal des Kompetenznetzwerks für Bibliotheken."

- "Der Mannheimer Brockhaus-Verlag will mit der 21. Ausgabe seines Nachschlagewerkes demnächst die umfassendste Enzyklopädie aller Zeiten vorlegen. Die Zahl der Bände stieg im Vergleich zur Vorgängerausgabe wegen Ergänzungen oder neuer Themen um 6 auf 30 (Gesamtgewicht: 70 Kilogramm). Sie enthalten auf 24.500 Seiten 300.000 Stichwörter sowie mehr als 40 000 Fotos, Bildtafeln, Grafiken und Karten. Der Inhalt wird auch in digitaler Form auf einer kleinen Speichereinheit (USB-Speicherstick) angeboten und kann am Computer aufgerufen werden. In der neuen Ausgabe sei der Bildbereich stark erweitert worden, sagte Projektleiterin Marion Winkenbach. - Abstract
- Um den Siegeszug der Portalmetapher und der damit verbundenen Konzeptionen nachvollziehen zu können, wird zunächst der Begriff selbst beleuchtet und in seinem Bedeutungspotenzial dargestellt. Anschließend werden Entstehungskontext und Grundfunktionen der aktuellen Portalkonzeptionen untersucht. Im Mittelpunkt der Darstellung stehen mit dem World Wide Web, dem Unternehmensbereich und dem Wissenschaftssektor die wichtigsten Anwendungsfelder der diversen Portalkonzeptionen. Gemeinsame und typenspezifische Funktionsmerkmale werden erläutert. Damit soll ein Beitrag geleistet werden zur eindeutigen typologischen Unterscheidung dieser Konzeptionen, die gegenwärtig auch begrifflich nicht klar definiert sind: zahllose Kompositaverbindungen und Begriffsvarianten für weitgehend identische Konzeptionen sind ebenso konstatierbar wie gleichlautende Bezeichnungen für Konzeptionen, die nicht miteinander vereinbar sind oder sich auf unterschiedliche Anwendungsfelder beziehen. - Abstract
- Dem Privatanleger stehen heute umfassende Informationsangebote im Internet zur Verfügung. Der Vortrag präsentiert die aktuelle Situation auf dem Markt der Finanzinformationssysteme und weist auf Chancen und Risiken für den Endanwender dieser öffentlich zugänglichen Informationen hin. Das Informationsangebot für Privatanleger ist heute sehr umfassend. Aktuelle und historische Kurs- und Preisinformationen, Analysen, Branchenberichte, Wirtschafts- und Finanznachrichten sowie Unternehmensporträts können von allen Nutzern oder von Kontoinhabern kostenlos abgerufen werden. Anleger, die die Informationsmedien intensiv nutzen, sind zum Teil besser informiert als die Berater in den Filialen, die keinen Zugang zu Internet oder Intranet haben. Allgemein lässt sich das Angebot an Finanzinformationen im Internet in folgende Bereiche aufteilen: Finanzportale; Online-Angebote klassischer Printmedien zum Thema Finanzen; Marktinformationen von Online-Brokern und traditionellen Banken; Börsenplätze. Fraglich ist jedoch, ob alle Privatanleger in der Lage sind, die Informationen richtig zu nutzen und zu bewerten. Gibt es weitere Quellen? Ist die Informationsquelle seriös oder verbergen sich Verkaufsinteressen hinter dem Angebot? Der Vortrag zeigt die Entwicklungstendenzen im Bereich Online-Finanzinformationen auf, stellt einige Angebot exemplarisch dar und weist auf Probleme hin, die dieses umfassende Informationsangebot für den Endanwender beinhaltet

- Abstract
- Ein mittelständischer Verlag kann sehr schwer vor allem retrospektiv auf XML umstellen, um seine Internetanwendungen zukunftsträchtig zu organisieren. Der Einsatz von Microsoft Word und der systematische Einsatz von Stylesheets war ein pragmatischer Ansatz, sieben Zeitschriften in nur drei Monaten via XML ins Internetportal zu bringen. Daneben musste ein Konzept für eine Adressdatenbank und Termindatenbank gefunden werden, deren Daten direkt online publiziert werden sollten. Zudem musste die Integration der Abonnentendatendaten zum Zugriffsschutz eingebaut werden, aber direkte Eingabe online von neuen Daten neben der offiziellen Datenbank gewährleistet sein. Webdesign und Webhosting rundeten das Full Service Konzept ab, eine vollständige Automatisierung aller Updateprozesse wurde angestrebt, um wirtschaftlich arbeiten zu können. Der Vortrag erklärt das Gesamtkonzept, vertieft die XML-Aufbereitung und konkretisiert die automatisierten Prozesse des Updates und die schnelle Durchführung des Projektes, ohne dass der Verlag über spezifisches Internet Know-how verfügen muss

- "Seit kurzem lohnt es sich ganz besonders, Mitglied der Stadtbibliothek Köln zu werden - auch dann, wenn man nicht vorhat, dort Bücher auszuleihen. Für einen Mitgliedsbeitrag von 21 Euro pro Jahr stehen via Internet Recherche-Möglichkeiten zur Verfügung, die Ihresgleichen suchen: Gestern wurde in Köln die neue Digitale Bibliothek" (DigiBib) vorgestellt. Dies ist ein Meilenstein für die öffentlichen Bibliotheken", sagte Stadtbibliothekschef Horst Neißer, und nahm damit den Mund nicht zu voll. Denn dank der Möglichkeiten des Internets und der Digitaltechnik sorgen die Bibliotheken dafür, dass auch ProfiWissen nicht nur den Begüterten dieser Gesellschaft offensteht. Jeder Bürger, so Neißer, erhalte auf Wunsch Informationen, die bisher Fachleuten oder Wissenschaftlern vorbehalten waren. Der besondere Clou: Um zu recherchieren, braucht man gar nicht persönlich in der Bibliothek vorbeizuschauen. "Der Bildschirm auf dem Dorf ist genauso groß wie der Bildschirm in der Großstadt", meinte Ulrich Moeske, Chef der Stadt- und Landesbibliothek Dortmund und Leiter des DigiBib-Prpjektes. Entwickelt würde dieses 1998 vom Hochschulbibliothekszentrum in Köln (HBZ) und der Universitätsbibliothek Bielefeld eigentlich zuerst nur für wissenschaftliche Bibliotheken und deren Nutzer. Doch Stadt- und Landesbibliothek Dortmund, Stadtbibliothek Köln und die Düsseldorfer Stadtbüchereien waren von dem Ergebnis so begeistert, dass sie das Land überzeugen konnten, 5op ooo Mark für ein Pilotprojekt bereit,zu stellen, um die Anbindung-an öffentliche Bibliotheken zu überprüfen. Gestern wurde das Projekt offiziell abgeschlossen und steht damit den Nutzern zur Verfügung. Mit der DigiBib kann jeder recherchieren. Die Metasuche erlaubt zur Zeit unter einer Oberfläche die Suche in 72 Datenbanken und Katalogen wobei das Angebot den aktuellen Bedürfnissen angepasst wird. Das Besondere: Auch Inhalte von kostenpflichtigen professionellen DatenbankAnbietern wie GBI (VolltextPressedatenbank)" Genios (Wirtschafts- und Pressedatenbanken) oder LexisNexis stehen den Mitgliedern der Bibliothek online zur Verfügung. Außerdem finden sich auf den Seiten Links zu ausgewählten Quellen im Internet, die überprüftes Qualitätswissen liefern. "Es ist eine Bibliothek, die niemals schließt", verkündet Stadtbücherei-Chef Neißer stolz. Und wie funktioniert das Ganze? Mitglieder geben ihr Passwort und eine Kennung ein und erhalten danach Zugang zum DigiBib-Angebot. Man gibt anschließend einen Titel oder ein Schlagwort ein und klickt die Quellen an, in denen gesucht werden soll. Danach erhält man eine Liste mit den Ergebnissen. Entweder gibt es Hinweise darauf, in welcher Bibliothek die Bücher zu finden sind, manchmal stehen sogar Volltexte zum Download zur Verfügung. Man kann außerdem per Verfügbarkeitsrecherche feststellen, ob ein Buch gerade ausgeliehen ist. Wer ein Werk per Fernleihe bestellen möchte, kann das ebenfalls bequem vom heimischen PC aus tun. Das Buch kann dann bei der Bibliothek abgeholt werden. Wer die DigiBib nutzen will, muss sich hierzulande einmal persönlich mit dem Personalausweis bei der Stadtbücherei 'in Köln anmelden. Doch bald werden auch andere Bibliotheken den Dienst anbieten, darunter auch kleine und mittlere Häuser, die ans System angeschlossen werden wollen. Derzeit liegen 81 Anträge, nicht nur aus NRW, soridern sogar aus Bayern, vor. Sind die Bibliotheken einmal angeschlossen, kann sich der Kunde über deren j eweili-. ge Homepage ins System einwählen. Es ist auch möglich, dass mehrere kleine Bibliotheken im Verbundsystem ins Netz gehen und den gemeinsamen Zugriff auf ihre Bestände ermöglichen."

- Die durch das WWW gegebenen Möglichkeiten, von den Suchergebnissen einer Datenbank über Hyperlinks auf elektronische Volltexte zuzugreifen, einzelne Titel online zu bestellen oder mit anderen Datenbanken oder Katalogen zu verknüpfen, werden mittlerweile von vielen Datenbankanbietern genutzt oder standardmässig angeboten. Das hier besprochene Linksystem weist dieselben Möglichkeiten auf und verbindet Suchergebnisse mit lokal verfügbaren elektronischen Zeitschriften bzw. mit Bibliotheks-Katalogen. Auch eine automatische Bestellfunktion ist vorhanden. Dieses auf Javascript basierende Linksystem verwendet ein einfaches, bisher aber noch wenig bekanntes Verfahren, bei dem jeweils die gesamte Ergebnisliste einer Datenbank (50 bis 200 Titel) in das Texteingabefeld eines Formulars eingefügt und dann weiter mit Javascript bearbeitet wird. Vorteilhaft ist die gross Anpassungsfähigkeit des Programms an die speziellen oder sogar individuellen Bedürfnisse. Medline-LINK wendet dieses Linkverfahren auf die besonders effiziente und zudem entgeltfreie Datenbank PubMed an. In dieser Testversion bilden die von der UB Regensburg abonnierten E-Zeitschriften zusätzlich eines großen Teils von elsevier-Zeitschriften den Grundbestand der zu verknüpfenden Zeitschriften. Über die dynamisch ermittelte ISSN kann die Verbindung von der Ergebnisanzeige zu den Bestandsanzeigen des BVB und GBV hergestellt werden. Die automatische Bestellfunktion wird am Beispiel des Fernleihbestellformulars der UB Regensburg demonstriert
