- Abstract
- Die Thesaurus-Thematik wird zunächst in den Zusammenhang der gesamten Erschließungs- und Retrievalmöglichkeiten eines Information-Retrieval-Systems gestellt. Auf dieser Grundlage wird ein multilinguales Thesaurus-Konzept entwickelt. Wichtige Elemente sind: die Ermöglichung des Zugangs anhand des Benutzervokabulars, eine systematische, transparente Bedeutungsdifferenzierung und eine Basis-Relationierung anhand einer einzigen ("ausgezeichneten") natürlichen Sprache.

- Abstract
- In diesem Beitrag werden Aspekte der Multilingualität für die Hypertextforschung behandelt. Dabei werden einige Ergebnisse empirischer Arbeit zu interlingualen Textvergleichen vorgestellt und davon ausgehend ihre Anwendbarkeit auf Hypertext diskutiert. Darüberhinaus wird auf ein für Text und Hypertexte gleichermaßen wichtiges Diskursphänomen, die Konnektivität kontrastiv im Türkischen und Deutschen eingegangen. In diesem Zusammenhang wird auch der Nutzen wissensbasierter Verfahren in der Hypertextforschung angesprochen

- Abstract
- Der vorliegende Beitrag befaßt sich mit dem Sprachenproblem im Bereich wissensbasierter Faktenretrievalsysteme. Diskutiert werden die Probleme der Adaption eines Systems an multilinguale Umgebungen. Es wird gezeigt, daß Multiligualität nicht nur bei Objekten in Textform eine Rolle spielt, sondern auch im Bereich des Faktentretrieval. Die Problematik erfährt durch die Wissensbasiertheit eine Steigerung. Für die Implementierung derartiger Systeme wurden Richtlinien dargestellt, welche die verschiedenen Systemkomponenten und auch softwareergonomische Aspekte einbezieht

- Mit der Vorstellung des Aktionsplanes der EG wurde neben anderen möglichen Projekten auch das einer mehrsprachigen Schlagwortnormdatei genannt. Die folgenden Ausführungen sollen einige allgemeine Probleme ansprechen, die sich bei der Erarbeitung einer derartigen Normdatei ergeben, wobei als Hintergrunddokumente die einschlägigen Normen von DIN und ISO heranzuziehen sind.

- Abstract
- This paper describes a proposal for a new approach to thesaurus design and construction that could have significant implications for change in the way multilingual thesauri are handled and integrated with each other. The formula presented here has its origin in the work of the German Thesaurus Committee and has had input from a number of scientists and practitioners in the field. The emphasis is on the various types of relationships found among concepts, notions and universals in languages. These relationships are analysed and refined beyond the approach taken in existing thesauri. This proposal is very much at the discussion stage and the author invites the assistance of interested readers through criticisms, discussion and dialogue. Applications of the proposed thesaurus are included and the major goal of this proposal is to provide the basis for improved design and integration of multilingual thesauri

- Abstract
- Once the library has been through a process of transition from traditional library procedures to automated ones, natural language searching became a necessity for both indexers and searchers. Therefore, aside from the precoordinated classified catalogue we started to build a dictionary of terms in order to make postcoordinate search possible in keeping with the UDC notations assigned to each bibliographic record. After a while we came to the conclusion that the dictionary needed a control of its terms so that synonymous concepts and semantic ambuguities be avoided. The project presented in this paper shows how reality imposed the improvement of the quality of indexing and hence of the searching possibilities. Is also shows the reasons why we consider a multilingual thesaurus based on UDC an ideal indexing and searching device. The experiment applied on class 8 of UDC illustrates the way the UDC tables can be quite successfully used in building a thesaurus due to their qulities and how their limitations can be overcome by a thesaurus. An appendix to the paper contains a sample of the multilingual thesaurus given in both alphabetical and systematic layouts

- Describes the activities of the National Bibliographic Service, UK, in developing national bibliographies on CD-ROM. The key aims of the project, partly funded by the Commission of the European Communities under its IMPACT programme, are: to promote better and easier access to European and national bibliographies; to promote economies in library cataloguing through improved interchange of bibliographic records between European (and non European) national libraries, irrespective of differing national MARC formats; and to develop shared approaches to strategies, applications and formats for bibliographic data on CD-ROM. - Abstract
- The search system CANAL/LS simplifies the searching of library catalogues by analyzing search questions linguistically and translating them if required. The linguistic analysis reduces the search question words to their basic forms so that they can be compared with basic title forms. Consequently all variants of words and parts of compounds in German can be found. Presents the results of an analysis of search questions in a catalogue of 45.000 titles in the field of psychology

- Discusses the importance and utility of a thesaurus of concepts to provide logical support for multilingualism. Deals in particular with the IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) Thesaurus,a nd the work of the IEC Thesaurus Working Group, consisting of specialists of the Research Institute in Electrical Engineering (ICPE) and the University Politehnica of Bucharest. Describes how this group contributed to the thesaurus and implemented the multilingual database required by the editing and updating of multilingual database required by the editing and updating of multilingual dictionaries in electrical engineering
