    Abstract
    Die Vorteile internationaler Verbundsysteme werden durch Schwierigkeiten bei der Inhaltserschließung gefährdet. Abweichungen des tatsächlichen Selektionsergebnisses vom gewünschten Selektionsziel sind sprachlich bedingt; sie werden insbesondere durch Polysemie, Kontextabhängigkeit und syntaktische Ambiguität verursacht. Unter mehrsprachigen Bedingungen verschlechtert sich die Selektivität; es entstehen sprachabhängig unterschiedliche Selektionsergebnisse. Verbesserung ist nur bei Schaffung und sachgerechter Anwendung eines solchen multilingualen Thesaurus zu erreichen, der größtmögliche semantische Isomorphie (klare und übereinstimmende Begriffsabgrenzung) zwischen den Vokabularen und exakte semantische Äquivalenz zwischen den Deskriptoren gewährleistet. Dies erfordert hohe Aufwendungen, ist aber wichtiger als die Speicherung großer Mengen schlecht selektierbarer Dokumentationseinheiten

    Abstract
    Seit einigen Jahren hat sich in Europa eine Initiative zur Bewertung von Information Retrieval in mehrsprachigen Kontexten etabliert. Das Cross Language Evaluation forum (CLEF) wird von der EU gefördert und kooperiert mit Evaluierungsprojekten in den USA (TREC) und in Japan (NTCIR). Dieser Artikel stellt das CLEF in den Rahmen der anderen internationalen Initiativen. Neue Entwicklungen sowohl bei den Information Retrieval Systemen als auch bei den Evaluierungsmethoden werden aufgezeit. Die hohe Anzahl von Teilnehmern aus Forschungsinstitutionen und der Industrie beweist die steigende Bedeutung des sprachübergreifenden Retrievals

    Abstract
    Die Wikipedia vermittelt das von vielen gesammelte Wissen in zahlreichen Sprachen über das Internet. Wenig bekannt ist allerdings, dass die einzelnen Wikipedia-Versionen weitgehend eigenständig und unabhängig voneinander sind. Nicht nur ihr Gesamtvolumen, auch die Anzahl der in ihnen enthaltenen Artikel, weist große Differenzen auf. Beiträge zu identischen Stichwörtern unterscheiden sich in Bezug auf die Länge, Struktur sowie den Inhalt häufig eklatant. Interlingualer Wissensaustausch könnte der Schlüssel sein, um brachliegende Informationen zu übertragen. Nach einer Beschreibung der derzeitigen Situation und bisheriger Ansätze, skizziert der auf einer Studienabschlussarbeit basierende Artikel WikiLINC, ein Konzept für den Transfer von Wissen innerhalb der verschiedenen Wikipedias.

    Abstract
    Die Thesaurus-Thematik wird zunächst in den Zusammenhang der gesamten Erschließungs- und Retrievalmöglichkeiten eines Information-Retrieval-Systems gestellt. Auf dieser Grundlage wird ein multilinguales Thesaurus-Konzept entwickelt. Wichtige Elemente sind: die Ermöglichung des Zugangs anhand des Benutzervokabulars, eine systematische, transparente Bedeutungsdifferenzierung und eine Basis-Relationierung anhand einer einzigen ("ausgezeichneten") natürlichen Sprache.

    Abstract
    Besucht jemand eine Bibliothekswebseite und möchte dort eine Frage stellen, wird er in der ganzen WeIt mit einer ähnlichen Situation konfrontiert: die Seiten werden nur in der/(den) Landessprache(n) der Bibliothek und vielleicht in einer anderen Sprache - meist Englisch - angeboten. Wenn der Besucher die auf diesen Seiten verwendeten Sprachen nicht kennt, ist der vermittelte Eindruck: "Wir können Deine Frage nicht verstehen. Wenn Du nicht diese Sprache für Deine Frage verwendest, wird Deine Frage nicht beantwortet." In einer WeIt, in der man zunehmend versucht Barrieren zu reduzieren bzw. abzuschaffen, sollten sich Bibliotheken fragen, ob es nicht Möglichkeiten gibt, die vorhandene sprachliche Barriere abzubauen und Dienste in mehreren Sprachen anzubieten.

    Abstract
    In diesem Beitrag werden Aspekte der Multilingualität für die Hypertextforschung behandelt. Dabei werden einige Ergebnisse empirischer Arbeit zu interlingualen Textvergleichen vorgestellt und davon ausgehend ihre Anwendbarkeit auf Hypertext diskutiert. Darüberhinaus wird auf ein für Text und Hypertexte gleichermaßen wichtiges Diskursphänomen, die Konnektivität kontrastiv im Türkischen und Deutschen eingegangen.     Abstract
    Die Identifikation der Sprache bzw. der Sprachen in Textdokumenten ist einer der wichtigsten Schritte maschineller Textverarbeitung für das Information Retrieval. Der vorliegende Artikel stellt Langldent vor, ein System zur Sprachidentifikation von mono- und multilingualen elektronischen Textdokumenten. Das System bietet sowohl eine Auswahl von gängigen Algorithmen für die Sprachidentifikation monolingualer Textdokumente als auch einen neuen Algorithmus für die Sprachidentifikation multilingualer Textdokumente.

    Abstract
    Der vorliegende Beitrag befaßt sich mit dem Sprachenproblem im Bereich wissensbasierter Faktenretrievalsysteme. Diskutiert werden die Probleme der Adaption eines Systems an multilinguale Umgebungen. Es wird gezeigt, daß Multiligualität nicht nur bei Objekten in Textform eine Rolle spielt, sondern auch im Bereich des Faktentretrieval. Die Problematik erfährt durch die Wissensbasiertheit eine Steigerung.     Abstract
    Der Einsatz von modularen Lernfragmenten zur automatischen Kurskomposition findet eine ständig wachsende Popularität im E-Learning Bereich, da sich hierdurch insbesondere eine hohe Flexibilität bei der Erstellung von Kursen erzielen lässt. Schwierig erweist sich in diesem Kontext jedoch die adäquate Repräsentation von inhaltlichen Zusammenhängen. In diesem Papier beschreiben wir ein flexibles Modell zur Kodierung von semantischen Beziehungen zwischen Lernfragmenten. Dieses Modell, das im Rahmen des Projektes Teachware on Demand eingesetzt wird, ermöglicht die effiziente Auswahl und Strukturierung von Kursen, da sowohl redundante Informationen kodiert, als auch weniger geeignete Fragmente zur Vervollständigung eines Kurses selektiert werden können

    Abstract
    Der Artikel fasst Komponenten für einen mehrsprachigen Zugang in digitalen Bibliotheken zusammen. Dabei wird der Fokus auf Bibliotheken für das digitale Kulturerbe gelegt. Eine Analyse aktueller (existierender) Informationssysteme im sogenannten GLAM-Bereich (Galerien, Bibliotheken, Archive, Museen) beschreibt angewandte Lösungen für die Recherche (Suchen und Blättern) von und die Interaktion mit mehrsprachigen Inhalten. Europeana, die europäische digitale Bibliothek für Kulturerbe, wird als Fallbeispiel hervorgehoben und es werden beispielhaft Interaktionsszenarios für die mehrsprachige Recherche vorgestellt. Die Herausforderungen in der Implementierung von Komponenten für den mehrsprachigen Informationszugang sowie Empfehlungen für den verbesserten Einsatz werden vorgestellt und diskutiert.

    Abstract
    Durch die ständig wachsende internationale Vernetzung ist auch bei der Suche nach Information seit langem eine intensive Entwicklung in Richtung Mehrsprachigkeit feststellbar. Diese wird meist von den Systemen und Technologien her betrachtet. Im informationellen Kontext ist auch die Seite der Nutzer*innen hinzuzuziehen, die etwa in Hinblick auf ihre Mehrsprachigkeit sehr unterschiedlich einzuschätzen sind. Kompetenzen in verschiedenen Sprachen sind eher die Regel als reiner Monolingualismus, der heute nur sehr selten vorzufinden ist. Die Nutzer*innen unterscheiden sich in den Niveaus ihrer Sprachkompetenz, die von rudimentärem Sprachverständnis bis hin zu muttersprachlichen Fähigkeiten reichen. Es wird zunehmend zur Gewohnheit und auch zur Notwendigkeit, auf multilinguale Kollektionen zuzugreifen und nach Information nicht nur in der Muttersprache zu suchen. Oft hängt dies auch davon ab, ob in beruflichen oder privaten Umgebungen mit entsprechenden Zielsetzungen gesucht wird. Information bleibt Information, auch wenn verschiedene Sprachen aufeinandertreffen, was z. B. für verschiedene mediale Formen von Informationsobjekten wie z. B. Bilder gilt.

    Abstract
    Im Mittelpunkt des vorliegenden Beitrags steht das Cross-Language Information Retrieval, das mit seinen sprachübergreifenden Funktionen zur Minderung von Sprachbarrieren bei der Informationssuche beiträgt. Hier sollen insbesondere die Eigennamen untersucht werden. Evaluierungsstudien haben gezeigt, dass ihnen aufgrund ihrer besonderen Eigenschaften eine wichtige Rolle bei der Identifikation von relevanten Dokumenten zukommt. Verfahren für die Optimierung des mehrsprachigen Retrievalprozesses werden angesprochen.

    Abstract
    Wie Übersetzer sollten Bibliothekare den Dialog zwischen Autoren, die bereits Werke verfasst haben, und zumeist solchen, die an neuen Werken arbeiten, vermitteln. Sie bedienen sich einer so stark reduzierten "Übersetzungssprache", dass der Dialog oft nicht mehr ausreichend gelingt. Seit zehn Jahren erweitern deshalb im deutschen und amerikanischen Bereich Bibliotheken zunehmend den Terminologieraum ihrer Kataloge durch die wichtigsten, originalsprachlichen Fachbegriffe der Autoren. Dadurch ergeben sich in der Recherche "Docking-Stellen" für terminologische Netze, die zur Query-Expansion statt Dokument-Reduktion genutzt werden können. Die sich daraus ergebende Optimierung des Recalls kann im Dialog mit einem modernen Retrieval-System mittels Facettierungstechnik hinsichtlich Precision verfeinert werden, wobei die ursprünglich oft schwer zugängliche Fachterminologie des Bibliothekars dann auch ohne ungeliebtes Vortraining entschlüsselt werden kann.

    Abstract
    Question Answering Systeme versuchen, zu konkreten Fragen eine korrekte Antwort zu liefern. Dazu durchsuchen sie einen Dokumentenbestand und extrahieren einen Bruchteil eines Dokuments. Dieser Beitrag beschreibt die Entwicklung eines modularen Systems zum multilingualen Question Answering. Die Strategie bei der Entwicklung zielte auf eine schnellstmögliche Verwendbarkeit eines modularen Systems, das auf viele frei verfügbare Ressourcen zugreift. Das System integriert Module zur Erkennung von Eigennamen, zu Indexierung und Retrieval, elektronische Wörterbücher, Online-Übersetzungswerkzeuge sowie Textkorpora zu Trainings- und Testzwecken und implementiert eigene Ansätze zu den Bereichen der Frage- und AntwortTaxonomien, zum Passagenretrieval und zum Ranking alternativer Antworten.

    Abstract
    Das Deutsche Referenzzentrum für Ethik in den Biowissenschaften (DRZE) in Bonn veröffentlicht zusammen mit nationalen und internationalen Partnern den neuen, mehrsprachigen Thesaurus Ethik in den Biowissenschaften. Das Werkzeug zur Recherche und Verschlagwortung liegt derzeit in deutscher und englischer Sprache vor. Eine französische Version folgt 2005. Insbesondere die Online-Version des Thesaurus bietet komfortable Navigations- und Suchmöglichkeiten.
